Anybody wanna vouch for Springfield Armory?

So I've decided that I want a .45ACP handgun - last March I'd decided that I wanted a standard full size Ruger SR1911, and found one at Point Blank one day at lunch while I was there to pop off a few rounds. Told myself I'd come back next day to purchase and it was gone. I've been looking for one now for a year. Guess ya gotta be decisive these days.

Anyway, a local shop has the Ruger in the smaller commander model, and I been thinking about it. But they also have a used Springfield Armory .45 that has some cosmetic wear. No function problem, gun is tight, comes with holster and extra mags, feels good. It's just not what I'd set my heart to. But it's pretty damned nice.

So I'm a Ruger fan, a Ruger believer, confident in the company and the product.
I've never had any experience with Springfield - anyone wanna vouch for them and put my mind at ease?

Owned a springfield trp 1911 and loved it. They are known for pretty good customer service if you ever need any warranty service done.

No complaints on function. I have had a few G.I. ones. Loved them all. Very satisfying to plink with. I even carried one for a bunch of years. They always go bang and as long as you do your part, they hit pretty good.

Danno I own 2, and use each for personal and family protection. Luv em.

XD-M 4.5" (fullsize) in 9mm - safe by bed
XD-S 3.3" (compact) in 9mm - carry gun
I've got the same too, but my XD-M is the compact as well. Never had an issue one and they both shoot very well for a sub 4" barrel.

I’ve got a XD Mod 2 in 9mm. Great running pistol.

Can’t go wrong with a Springfield. It’s really just a Ford vs Chevy kind of thing. Whatever floats your boat. I don’t think you have anything to be concerned about from a quality and functionality standpoint.

I have an XDS45. Really like it. Not exactly a full size target pistol. The thin frame in 45acp let's you know you've fired some rounds if you shoot 100rds or so in one range sitting. But it is designed to be a carry piece. Not a plinker. Other than this it was fine. Carried it about a year or so. Need to send it in for warranty work. Magazine catch no longer holds magazines. They fall out. I think it is a simple spring failure. I can't fault them yet. I haven't contacted them yet.

I've never heard a complaint about them or the company. And that's saying something in today's times.

I had the XDS 9MM. Nice little pistol. I took an 8 hour advanced pistol course with it, the grip is VERY aggressive. Other than that, no complaints

Yeah, when I started this thread I was kinda expecting a positive response, the name Springfield resonates quality to me, even though I have no experience with them. I've never heard anyone badmouth them before. Thanks for the good feedback confirming my thoughts gentlemen. Now let's hope nobody scooped it up by the time I get back to the gunshop.

If your going to shoot lead wad cutters it helps if the feed ramp is polished

When I was in the market for a 9, I shopped both the XD and S&W. I ended up with the S&W simply because I liked their rebate better and it was a few dollars less. But after handling both, I don't think I could've gone wrong. As mentioned about, the XD had an aggressive grip, which I liked. For a .45 I have a Rock Island 1911. Not sure how that compares to a Springfield.
