I don't have cuba gear…pretty nasty down this way. Flooding is a major problem right now. I've never seen my creek this high either...

And there were not any pictures taken while snow was on the ground to verify tracks, etc.
Do you care to explain to me the difference between a coyote track, dog track, and fox track? I'm also pretty sure that the soft mud would do the same as snow...

I am far from an expert but I will try putting it in words. Dog track is more of a rounded print. Coyote track is more of a diamond shape. Fox is similar to coyote but almost like a cat/coyote blend. Not real positive on the Fox. We don't get to see many Fox tracks in my area.
Sorry for the confusion folks...this was more direct. I understand the difference. I just don't see what pictures of tracks would do. I don't mind when people that are informed are talking smack. It's another ball game when someone who can't direct water is talking shit...

Anyone can figure out that looking for tracks leading in and out of the supposed den would tell you whether you would have anything to fear let alone if anything whatsoever was even using it. Remember, you started this post and continue to say you're going to do it yet here we are.....

Tomorrow is Monday again. Back should be better but I don't see how a bad back can prevent someone from crawling.
Look at it this way. If you do kill a yote out of this den, you could cut its leg off and use the claws as a back scratcher.

Serious question: How does one distinguish between groundhog holes, coyote dens, fox dens, etc? I saw a TON of holes today while shed hunting. Some appeared fairly large in size. Some small. Some along RR tracks. Some in the woods. Some along river banks. One of these holes had some poop at the mouth of it. I don't know what groundhog poop looks like but it seemed more canine and decent sized. Coincedence? I mean there was a ton of coyote poop on the property. Did a yote drop a load at the entrance to a groundhog hole? I'm not messing with Giles here. Just seemed odd to find in the open. I figured it would have been more concealed.
Just about every animal you listed will take over a groundhog hole. I think they all go through cycles of being used by other animals, but start as groundhog dens.
This all seems to be very unanswered though, and one of the many reasons I want to do this.
I know of two holes that are in the middle of a hillside, by themselves. That's not a Chuck hole...neither have any dirt liked up either. If you didn't damn near step into it, you wouldn't know it was there.
