Anyone hiring?

Thanks fellas. Got a call from Rocky today thanks to a referral from Al. Interviewing with them on Friday. Pretty excited about that one.

I had to laugh at the recruiter for Bankers Life today. Showed up early to ask what I should have asked when she called. She confirmed my suspicion that it was a group "interview" for a 1099 position. I've sat through that spiel before and it's nothing but a sales pitch. You pay for the state test. Don't get paid for training. They don't cover expenses and it's all commission. You get a handful of recycled cold calls to start with and it's just an all around racket. I thanked her for her time and excused myself. She was dumbfounded. Just looking at the other people there for the interview and the new guy they were training, that wasn't for me. I'm tad offended that by looking at my resume, she'd have brought me in for that type of roll. Obviously she didn't understand much of my professional background.

The call I have at 2 and the interview with Rocky are 2 of the 3 top picks I had, so I'm hopeful something pans out with either of them.

That's shitty. My wife almost got dragged into that shit, I wouldn't let it happen. Good luck with the other TOO. Hope something happens soon.

Are you guys not "cool"?
I'm not sure we ever "cool" to be honest. But I haven't spoke to him in 5-6 years. I was a kid still growing up last time we interacted. As they are apt to do, having a kid has certainly changed me. I think we'd be fine if we were to communicate again. We're friend on FB, but rarely cross paths. He's a good dude, but I think I always chapped his ass cause I gave him a hard time about being grumpy. And I'm sure to him, I was just a mouthy young punk. lmao

You'll get quite a few of those body hunter type jobs. They usually send them to everyone as it's a law of averages and they're bound to find someone desperate. I got a call once from some indian guy for a job in Chicago reviewing red light camera footage. Not even close to my IT field. Weeding through those calls and offers can be disheartening. They're just job seeker spam and have no bearing on your experience or qualifications.

Gotcha! I talked his wife a few years ago, but it's been longer since talking to him.

Good luck with the search.

Phone interview went well. Going to meet in person next week. Their only projects would require me to travel and stay away from home, so that may be a deal killer. However they have more on the horizon and if I can wait, I may be places on something I could work on from the house. Fingers crossed!

Sometimes you have to get your foot in the door. You have a far better shot at getting the later positions if you're already in the traveling position. I know this would be hard on your family with your absence but a job is better than no job and it pays more than unemployment. You can always take the job and continue looking.

Agreed. I'm not telling them no just yet, but I was honest that it wasn't my preference. We'll see how the face to face goes and take it from there. I told him I was willing to wait for these other opportunities to get going (they have a few projects in the works) if it meant a better fit for my family. Being home is very, very important to me. So much so, I'll take a job close to home for much less money if I can still make ends meet and be home every night. Tucking my kid in every night is priceless.

happy to help bud.

I also know who you are speaking of I believe. I worked at Rocky for several years and never even met him in person. I just knew of him through the grapevine.

Let us know how it all goes. Small world and amazing how a few calls/emails might be able to help someone out!

Go get em!
