Anyone hiring?

Had a great a lunch meeting with a Regional Manager for a company that I have been leaning towards working for and felt was my best lead. It went really well and with a few breaks, they'll have an opening for me in mid-January. I like what see from the company and it would allow me to utilize the skills and experience I've gained in the oil field over the last decade, but they are diversifying, so they won't be JUST an energy service company. If what we discussed today goes through, I'll be back to work in 6 weeks making similar money and working in an area I am very familiar with. I won't have to move or travel. I'm trying to remain even keel on this, but I feel good about where we are headed. Certainly better than I did last Friday! I interviewed with Rocky and killed it. However they were not offering much money. In fact, I net twice the money on unemployment than I would have made there. It had me down, but today lifted my spirits.

All the support is appreciated BTW! I'm thankful to have this bunch behind me and to bounce ideas off of. With some luck, this down turn will shoot for the stars real soon!

Good to hear. I've had nothing but bad luck with Rocky boots as the damn thread rots and the last 2 pair fall apart. Got couple of their leather belts and they are going strong 4 years later. But then there isn't an thread to rot.

Good to hear man. Awesome news. Like I told you. Some days it will seem like everything is against you but just a few days later everything will be looking up. Don't count on this and slack off looking for 6 weeks though. If this falls through that'll be 6 weeks you wish you had back. You can always take something else then walk if this comes through. Keep husslin brother and keep your head up.

Definitely. I actually start a day rate job on Monday. It's short lived, but pays well and could open me up for more work with them. Going to keep pounding the pavement, but it's nice to know there could be something on the horizon.

Keep on pushing Jesse. It sounds like the meeting yesterday was really positive. The right opportunity will come along. Your talent isn't going to be left unnoticed for very long that's for sure.

A couple weeks back I interviewed with Rocky Brands thanks to a lot of help from Albert. I crushed the interviews and expected the call I just received. Unfortunately, I don't think I can accept their offer. By the time you do the math, I'd be netting $200 a week. Unemployment pays $463 (which I've been denied until April) and I just took a contract job that pays $350/day whether I work 2 hours or 20. It would be an hour commute one way and I'd be paying out $400+ a month in child care. Gross pay for a week is $530. It does pay a commission, but I know better than to count on that and honestly, have no idea how to even gauge what that commission might be. I can take any number of jobs closer to home paying the same and be better off. It seems like a great company to work for and a foot in the door is always good, but I hate to accept this job knowing I'd leave in a month or two. It's not fair to them to waste resources on me.

I made another solid connection today that should help me with the most appetizing prospect. The company I am doing the contract work for is managed by a guy from TX. His best friend's dad is the Project Manager for the project it sounded like I'd be placed on and at the very least, works for the company that I met with last week. This guy made a call on my behalf today, so that should help. Time to crush the contract work and better the cause!

Negotiate the offer. This is common practice these days as most people only get a substantial raise if they change companies. If Rocky understands your value, they will compensate you for it.

Why were you denied unemployement until April, 2016?

The HR Manager asked what my thoughts were and I explained my position. He's going to see what he can do compensation wise. I don't see it happening since they already have 3 people in this position and it's a newly created role.

I was denied unemployment because my former company screwed me. I was told my severance would be allocated to my last day of employment. My paper work says "3 months" and lists an amount, but no specific time frame for it to be allocated. They told Ohio it was allocated to Dec-March (math doesn't work) and now I'm fighting it. I doubt I win, but I'm going to fight it as much as I can.

Here's what's really fucked. Gross payout is $514, which I netted $463. They paid me and now want it back and of course, they want $514 back. WTF? Get your $51 back from the Feds, not my pocket!
