Anyone hiring?

Happy you got a call bummed they didn't offer you more. They might surprise you with the increase as I know they have for people in the past.

Also when I worked there I made significantly more in commission than salary.

If you have other opps deff consider those but just wanted to give you a bit more information. I can't speak to that exact position either.

You'll find something you love man. Just a matter of time to find the fit.

The HR Manager asked what my thoughts were and I explained my position. He's going to see what he can do compensation wise. I don't see it happening since they already have 3 people in this position and it's a newly created role.

I was denied unemployment because my former company screwed me. I was told my severance would be allocated to my last day of employment. My paper work says "3 months" and lists an amount, but no specific time frame for it to be allocated. They told Ohio it was allocated to Dec-March (math doesn't work) and now I'm fighting it. I doubt I win, but I'm going to fight it as much as I can.

Here's what's really fucked. Gross payout is $514, which I netted $463. They paid me and now want it back and of course, they want $514 back. WTF? Get your $51 back from the Feds, not my pocket!

THATS BULLSHIT!!!!!

Sorry to hear this Jesse!!!

Crush the $350/day. Can this be something that you can make a business for yourself? $350 a day with a flexible schedule seems like something to dig into.

It really depends on how prices rebound. I've never done much contract work, but I'm lucky in that I don't have to pay for insurance out it as I'm now on my wife's insurance. I can easily net on average of $200 a day ($100/day in taxes, $50 in expenses), which is what I was making on a bi-weekly basis. What's sweet is I worked 3 hours yesterday and 4 today, all from home. That's a nice net pay for 2 days "work". However if I work 14 tomorrow, I make the same. Regardless, contract work can be lucrative.

Maybe you can use the prices to help you?

I don't know the business but maybe you can sell yourself to other companies doing what you are doing for "contract " work now.

You getting $350/day is cheaper than paying someone else with insurance, taxes, etc....use that if possible.

Just a thought.

I was actually an anomaly as an in-house guy doing what I was doing. Most companies contract out the work I've done, so it's not a stretch to think I could make a living doing it that way.

Did you look into "Partial" Unemployment in stead of Full Unemployment? I am still employed but as you know there is no work. My Company told me that some of the loggers not working are not getting full and are getting partial. Just a thought.

Well as irony (or luck) would have it, in the week I receive my final payment from the day-rate work I picked up to make ends meet, and in the first week I'll received an unemployment check since being laid off on November 16, I received word that I should expect an offer and employment agreement early next week. It's been a long, trying road to this point filled with doubt, fear and uncertainty. Not to mention many sleepless nights, frustration and tears. So thankful it is over with!

I'm going to work for the Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth. It is a non-profit our of Nelsonville that is overseen by the Manufacturing Extension Partnership in Columbus. It is a federally funded program, as is my position, which means I could be out of work on 10/1 this year because the position is only funded until then. That said, it is a risk I'll gladly take for the training, education and connections I'm going to get in the time. It's a tremendous opportunity in that regard and there will be opportunities for me when the time comes. I still don't have an official title (either Account Executive or Project Associate) but I was hired to be the boots on the ground to help strengthen Ohio's $22 billion dollar timber and wood products industry. I'll be traveling throughout Ohio's eastern most 28 counties speaking with Ohio's some 250 small saw mills helping to identify who they are, what they do and how we might be able to help them. It puts me to work while continuing to utilize my strongest skills: people skills and communication.

I am super pumped for this opportunity!

Congrats duuuuude!! I have been watching those positions and could not quite figure out the organization. Best of luck man and I know you'll do just fine.

Awesome news man. So what I'm hearing is I need to setup a struggling sawmill right quick like.

Congrats man!

Is this part of "The Arc of Appalachia"? I know a couple people employed by them and they seem to really enjoy it.
