Heard of a few folks who lost jobs recently due to the sustained downturn in the energy industry and it made me think of this thread. This was a pretty tough stretch of life for me and it's crazy how fast it has turned around. My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption and my favorite line is at the end when Red talks about Andy “crawling through a mile of shit and coming out clean on the other side”. I fucked up a lot in my life. Not as bad or as much as others; worse and more often than some. All in all, my screw-ups in life have taught me more than my victories. While getting laid off wasn’t my fault, it sure was a ball buster in the same way some of my most FUBAR moments have been. Add in a family and its gut wrenching. Especially this week of the year. If anyone out there is going through this or knows someone who is, I extend my support and wish you/them the best of luck in getting back on your/their feet. A stroke of good luck and an old friend paying it forward brought me out of the ashes and honestly, I am better off today than I was the day before I was kicked to the curb.
If you know someone who is without employment (against their will) this holiday, take the time to show your support. I didn’t know it then, but the love I was shown here and elsewhere was instrumental in keeping me out of a deeper hole than where I was. And if you are a TOOzer going through this right now, just know that things can and will get better. I feared the worse and now feel like a blessed man. Keep your head up and Happy Holidays!
