I haven't set foot in the woods since last day of extra gun season so next week I will be hitting it hard with the bow. I just hope the deer have settled back down into a more regular pattern again. Going to put the cam back out late tomorrow afternoon and toss the last #40 of apples out as well. Get an inventory of whats left after the orange army hit the place like a plague.

I wish I could have been in the woods this evening. I went out to check the camera this afternoon and found half a dozen fresh ground scrapes that weren't there the day before.

Ernie, if you can, put you a stand up around 100y inside the edge of the woods on the best trail leading to the field. This may give you more of a shot to catch a deer headed to feed in the field just before sunset.

Got a doe on Christmas eve. Accomplished two firsts yesterday. First deer in the snow and first time shooting one while it was bedded.

I'm still gonna be at it. Got an antlerless tag I'm gonna try and fill here in the urban zone I live in - my neighbor across the street has given me the greenlight to hunt his woods, and my other neighbor who's a developer has a spot about a mile away. Got an eithersex tag for muzzy season and hunting down south. Would really like to not have to eat a tag this year, but my hopes aren't super high on the urban tag..... if by good fortune I fill them both, I won't buy any more and will start shedhunting and scouting.

What a magnificent obsession.

Well, was out till noon and it was a cold one.... My buddy who's Dad owns the farm was in the double stand about 300 yards up wind from me and he had 3 does go by him at 50 yards angling towards me.... The tree was swaying he was in and creaking and the deer were spooked, walking around with their tails high in the air and really skidish.... Well sure enough they walked at a very fast pace 10 yards from me just behind me and up a 50 foot hill..... Never offered a shot that was doable.... So over the top and out of sight, and that was it for the morning.... Came home and am drying out the clothes and smoking them up for the morning..... Stay warm, that wind was a killer lol.....

I think the guys that was goose hunting the field earlier today might have had something to do with it.

Get off work Tuesday morning @ 0630, gonna head home, shower up, and head for the woods. Plan on hunting the next 3 days. I've ate tag soup these last two years, and I don't intend on doing it this year.
