I bought Cam a Barnett Recruit Recurve crossbow for his birthday today. It was one of the kit deals from Dicks but it didn’t come with any arrows. I am looking for suggestions as to what arrows I should get for him.

Does the box say moon nocks? 20 or 22”? I’m not aware of anything special besides nocks, lengths and weights.
Looking at the pics, it looks to shoot the same as the regular Recruit. I’ve got one down in the basement that I can go pull an arrow from to get specs is you’d like. I know I had a hell of a time finding arrows it would fly true.
It doesn’t really have any info on the arrows other than use arrows with moon or half moon nocks. If you could look, that would be appreciated.

For the cost of finding the ones that fly good for you, I’d suggest finding a local shop that will let you shoot a few. That’s what I ended up doing. Had to drive an hour to do this. But it was worth the time to have the confidence in the set up.

Barnett has a bad wrap, but we got a few years out of ours. A couple thousand shots at a bag along with a few dozen kills between a few of us. Once I loaded an arrow wrong and jumped the string (dry fired) it basically all went downhill. It’ll still kill, but I don’t trust it anymore. Something is out of time with it and it will shoot 1/10 out into the woods. So it is just for plinking around the yard now. It’s a great starting point for kids though. I just suggest not chasing it once something goes wrong. Not really worth fixing IMO. Just go buy another one. They’re cheap and affordable. Disposable product IMO.
I had done some research on youth crossbows and all the review led me to either the Parker Challenger or the Barnett Recruit. I bought the Parker for my daughter and it was a tack driver. Cam wanted to shoot in a few weeks back and it wouldn’t fire. I talked to a bow tec and he told me that was a common issue and there was no fixing it. That led me to this bow. Hopefully it lasts a little longer than the Parker did.
I thought Parker had a lifetime warranty? Or are they one of the company’s to close the doors recently?
DO NOT THROW THAT CHALLENGER AWAY! It can be fixed.

They tried that shit on a friend of mine...Took the trigger box out and soaked it in PB Blaster. Worked it by hand and it all came back together. Trigger boxes on crossbows tend to get neglected (I am guilty as well). Hope this helps you some.
Some crossbows also have a "double click" as it catches on the trigger box. If it is in the first click, it will hang up also.
