Bass Pro Shops acquiring Cabela's for $5.5B

It'll be interesting to see if these combined store will have the buying power to pull in Mathews, Hoyt and other major players in the archery world. That is what keeps me going to the fin. It's a Mathews dealer and feels like a true archery shop. If I had a mega store near me and it had all those brands.....

I hope it doesn't change the stores. I am not impressed with Bass Pro what-so-ever. Buy very little from Cabelas except for their clothes, they are quality like the hunting wear.

I don't think it will, but time will tell.

Ultimately the consumers will have influence here. As long as people keep their business at the local / regional retailer for archery then the market will favor that, and the major players will too. If consumers largely favor cheap stuff, at low prices with a lack of customer service then big box will win. (Not saying all big box service is bad because I've had good & bad experiences... just painting with a broad brush here)

This sucks. Cabelas branded gear, especially clothing, is pretty high quality stuff. Bass Pro on the other hand, total fuggin garbage. I really REALLY hope this doesn't have a negative impact on cabelas quality.

Jim I feel like you and I have beat this subject like a dead horse, completely agree, Red Head Gear sucks, always thought cabelas has better with customer service as well.

Oh I know. It's not even close either. Redhead/bass pro gear is complete junk. About the only thing bass pro shops does right is fishing gear. And even then, it's way over priced.

Just read a copy of the memo from Johnny Morris to bass pro employees. In it he states how exciting it is to bring together "our time-tested, iconic outdoor brands: Cabela's - a leader in hunting, and Bass Pro Shops - a leader in fishing..."

Maybe they recognize they're hunting gear sucks balls and this is an attempt to make some sort of a super-company in the outdoors industry.

I sure hope so. Like it has been stated, I hate the Red Head brand as well. I was at Bass Pro to buy a new reel and they actually tried to talk me into the bass pro brand bait caster. No thanks.

I hate to say it but I cannot count the number of times we've gone to either store and left without buying a single thing. Knowing you can get most of it cheaper on-line is what keeps me from buying most things. Other items like clothing, boots, etc. I can see getting there or even the items you need right away. Wont impact us much considering that but it would be nice to have one closer to home.
