For those of us that choose to grow out their beards, I thought I would start a thread so as not to hijack the Deer Beard thread.

What do you use?

When my beard WAS longer ( & it will be again ), I used oils. Not that it did much good that I could tell in the long run other than women at work loved to come up & sniff. I used oil from the " Dollar Beard Club " & I really liked it until they changed something & it smelled like cat piss. I do have my supply of balm & butter as well. " Beard Of God " products was good too. There's all sorts out there.

What exactly is the purpose of the oils and butters? My bride bought me some kind of wax for mine, but it seems a little lady like to treat a beard to me. I’m just ignorant of proper beard care it seems. At Christmas, my brother told me to feel how wonderful his beard felt due to proper treatment. I never thought of him as a homo until that moment.

You apparently didn't read my post. :)

" Not that it did much good that I could tell in the long run other than women at work loved to come up & sniff. " lol

On that note, one of my favorite things to do is... as one is leaning their head in for the sniff, I'l suddenly jerk my head towards them. Haha, they jump back so fast thinking something is gonna fly out at 'em from inside the beard.

I copied this to help. I never used or cared to use or even understand the products until this year.
I can promise you, no one is calling me Homo...

Whats the difference between Beard balm and beard butter?
A balm generally won't contain as much beeswax as a beard wax. Beeswax is a natural ingredient that has the most hold compared to shea butter and cocoa butter, which are more for spread than hold. ... While they can contain some of the same ingredients, a mustache wax needs a stronger hold than a beard wax.

Is Beard balm the same as Beard Oil?
BEARD BALM. ... If you have a patchy or thin beard, consider using a beard balm with shea butter, as shea is especially good at making facial hair appear thicker. In addition to all natural sealants, make sure your beard balm contains all natural moisturizers like jojoba or argan oil

What does Beard butter do for your beard?
Shea butter is also a natural anti-inflammatory, which will help with any itchy skin or blocked pores. Some beard butters also contain wax. This is typically beeswax, which gives hold to the hair of your beard. Basically it allows you to shape the beard better and keeps that shape, meaning no more crazy bushy beard.

What's the difference between Beard Oil and beard balm?
The stuff is like thick butter and it is just as healthy for you as beard oil. ... In a sense, it's a beard oil with the addition of wax and butters. The wax, which is usually beeswax, is used to keep the balm in a solid state and also, to give your beard a bit of hold. The more beeswax the balm has, the stronger the hold.

Do beard oils help growth?
Although nothing can change the rate at which your hair grows, beard oils containing unrefined jojoba and pure argan oil help create the conditions for healthy growth, which means less breakage so your beard will appear thicker and longer faster.

What does Beard Oil do for your beard?
Beard oil moisturizes facial hair and the skin beneath. Beard oil is hydrating to the skin and helps soften and tame beard hair, which means it also does double-duty as a styling agent. According to Schneidman, the ideal beard should look shiny and groomed — not dusty, flaky and shaggy.

I use both. (Oxy clean spray around the collar before will prevent staining.) I use the butter when my beard is shorter, oil when its longer. Boars bristle brush for working both in, and I have 2 strategically placed beard combs made from sandalwood. Amazing how they don't pull hairs like a plastic comb.

Honest Abe's Beard Butter and Mountaineer Beard Oils are my go to brands.

I need to look "proper" in my line of work! An unruly beard isn't fitting for a suit and ostrich skins. 😂

Not to mention no one wants to be the dude sitting at the lunch table scratching his itchy face with dead skins and broken beard hairs falling all over the place. I work with a dude that doesn't maintain his beard and his desk looks like you busted open a bag of instant taters all over the place 🤢

So I've been holding the ace in the hole, but BC let the cat out of the bag, so I think this is a safe space now... K and I have thick, brittle hair, so Tracie started her on a certain conditioner as a baby pretty much, which is when I started growing a beard. Couple times a week, I'll use a quarter sized bit of that and let it sit in my beard for 5 minutes. Keeps my beard from being so brittle. It's like the difference between dry spaghetti and al dente.
