Black spots on lungs

Daughters boyfriend shot a buck in the neck with a crossbow tonight. While field dressing it he noticed multiple black spots on the lungs.
I have not run into this… any one know about this? Is the meat safe to eat?

Hey guys, Took a nice mature doe this afternoon with my crossbow. Shot was about 40 yards. I aimed for the vitals, but it must have either hit an unseen branch, the deer flinched, or I just flat-out messed it up, but luckily it ended up slicing right through the neck and severed the carotid...

Lung spots

A family member of mine killed a buck with these lungs. I thought it might be hemorrhaging from the kill but he seems to think they’ve been there a long time and appears to be disease.

I've seen it before. I think it has to do with aspirating blood. IMO it should be fine.

deer was fully vaccinated...

Only spots you would worry about would be on the inside of the ribcage. Those are like others have said, due to blood in the lungs.
