Well to follow up on this I got the boat and trailer in working order and we took it to Lake of the Ozarks this week. We looked like the biggest rednecks on this thing!!! 😂. Smallest boat on the lake but the kids had a ball on the knee board and tube.
But I do think a bigger boat is now in our future.... And our pup loved it all!

Glad it all went well... Don’t buy a new boat as there’s a ton of lightly used boats out there.... @Quantum673 is a pleasure boat guy and has a lot of experience in em....

If you are serious about a new to you bigger boat. Wait until right after Labor Day. They will start hitting the market especially due to all the ones that were bought during Covid. People will start trying to figure out how they are going to store them and decide to sell. Happens every year but with boat sales during Covid hitting record highs there will be more.

There is a chance we may buy new as we would probably keep it quite a while. Is after Labor Day also a good time to buy new? Any particular brand to avoid? Looking to probably get an open bow, 20 to 22 feet or so long.

Glad you and the family had a good time! Red neck ain’t a bad word around here!
I’ve no idea what you want out of a boat but I absolutely love our Starcraft. I’ve had quite a few fishing boats, never one just to ride around in or ski. Having said that, we have pulled tubes with several of the fishing boats we’ve had. If you all enjoy fishing as well, I can’t recommend a boat more highly than a Starcraft.
For family fun, a pontoon with a BIG motor is hard to beat. You can do water sports stuff and there is no boat made with more room.
Here is ours. Bought it when I started fishing Lake Erie. Works well on smaller lakes too and will drag a tube with no problem.

Looks like a great trip. Unless you are looking for a payment with zero percent interest at a dealership (if they are offering 0% anywhere), I'd listen to Quantum. Campers, boats, motorcycles. . . there are always a large number which are like new or barely used. Find that 2-3-4yr old boat someone "thought" they'd use. Let them take the big depreciation hit.

Yes after Labor Day is usually the best time to buy.

I would look at both new and used if I was you. Compare pricing. I would bet you can find a basically new boat for a great deal after the season is over.

As far as brands. That is going to depend a lot on what you are wanting to use the boat for. Deck boats are probably the most versatile boats on the water. You can fish, tube, ski, and cruise with plenty of space. Honestly I have never owned one but it is high on the list for my next boat.

V-bottom open bow run about will probably be one of the most available as well as pontoon. For brands it really depends on budget. Cobalt, Crownline, and Rinker are going to be towards the top but they are also the most pricey.

Probably the biggest piece of advice I can give you is stay away from anything that has carpet in it unless it is snap in carpet that you can easily remove. Most now a days are fiberglass floors.

As you start looking around if you have particular questions feel free to ask.

All day I kept thinking about that dock jump. Awesome capture! Oakley does it in his own way. So fun to watch and it’s about impossible to not smile. From here it looks like the work was well worth the reward!!!

Another follow up…..
We ended up getting a new boat as used boat prices are still completely outrageous!! Actually ordered it last October, and finally was able to pick it up last Saturday. It is a Regal 2300, and is 24ft LOA. Took it out on the local reservoir Sunday with the kids and they had a blast. Lots of memories will be made on this thing!
