It wouldn’t explode not being contained. The vapors are from the temperature at which a fuel off gases. Out in the open it could ignite if they reach the flash point. Too rich and it won’t or too lean. Surely it would find a flash point. I didn’t see the wreckage so could it have been coolant and not fuel?

Oh cars don’t explode like what tv portrays all the time. Could they explode? Yes, but rarely that they do. Most times an explosion is from a tire. Best to have a full tank of fuel than an almost empty tank.
