Broadheads

jackalope, i hope i didnt screw myself on these lol i did the same thing watched the promo vid and it convinced me to try em after i was gonna go with the montecs, i talked to a few ppl tonight and they said theyve never had a problem with them not flying like a field point, only thing they told me was to stay away from the 3 blades, my guess is deployment problems, im just wondering if the pass through problems its because entering through two ribs and catchin on on the other side or other bones maybe? slow shooting bows also? bout my only ideas unless the broadhead just truly doesnt hold up to its name

the white one is mine . about 170 , flint ridge flint . the brown one is 7500 years old at least . i killed a doe with it last year , second day. took it to the shop saterday night . hafted it to a hickory shaft , sharpened it and killed a fat doe the next morning .

Now that is just cool!

Correct. The 2 inch cut and blade angle robs the arrow of momentum and it just doesn't have the ass to poke through the other side. It will make one hell of a slice on entry and in the vitals. But the pass through has been an issue for them... That is unless you're like Kiaser and fling arrows at a million feet per second. lol.. Just stay away from the shoulder and you'll be ok.

Personally.. When the moment of truth comes i don't want to have to worry about it. I want to put my pin on the vitals and poke two holes and not care what bones lie between. I don't want to worry about blades not opening, or opening in flight... Or a shoulder or leg bone stopping them pre vitals.. I want to settle the pin, envision my exit, and send her on the way knowing damn well I'm gonna poke two holes in that deer.

wish my bow shot that fast lol yea if they dont work ill go with the montecs my buddy says they are awesome and go through about anything, i usually shoot muzzy`s figured id switch it up this year, hell it dont have to exit as long as that entrence wound is enough to cause major blood loss and down the deer thats all im worried about

My bow isn't anything lightning fast. 275fps through the chronograph with hunting arrow setup. I have gone through 2 deer with it so far and had a pass through using Muzzy fixed blades. Just put it in the right spot. That is the main thing from everything I have read. For what its worth, I had to dig my arrow out of the ground a good 6-8" both times after the pass through.

Just don't make a high body shot.

If you make a high body shot without a pass through you won't see any blood until the cavity fills up no matter what size the entry hole is. Depending on organs hit you might not find any blood at all until you find the deer laying dead.

One reason I won't shoot a single plain slicer style mechanical blade. A clean slice will have more of a chance to get wet with blood and seal it's self back closed. I 3-4 blade BH will cut a hole (jagged edges) and you won't have this issue. Much harder for the flap of skin to cover a hole where there is flesh missing rather then have just a millimeter to close from a slit. Of course this is all my opinion and the reason I won't do it and then when you add in the fact of mechanical failure, No thanks. I'll pass.

I'm not saying it won't kill deer because it will and has. All I'm saying is IF you end up having to track a deer that isn't hit real well, your going to have issues.

What????? Nobody uses the "Schwacker" LOL!

Remember, now you can take quartering shots with no problem at all!

(Hank Parker can kiss my ass)

Are Satellite Broadheads still around? It looks like they were bought out by a company called Ballistic Archery.

EDIT: I said Satellite but meant Steelforce....

yea my bow is prolly shootin around 235-245 with a hunting set up so def, not a speed demon, im just hoping that the sharpness of the blades will make up for the lack of speed and still get a pass through, which matters most on the pass through speed or the broadhead, im guessin the broadhead. and to hell with hank parker he should have stayed a fisherman take his schwacker broadheads and his c`mere deer with him

and redcloud thats true about the high body shot..... i believe someone else told me something similar about a lower hole will drain a chest cavity quicker then a higer hole, or something in that facinity, in other words i know what your saying

the 3 blade rage do some damage like i said never had a problem with them opening or not leaving good blood. its all shot placement anyways.think out of the ten deer ive shot with the rages 8 have been complete pass threws.
