I was able to find a pack of slick tricks the 1in 100s they didn't have the mags so I will give these a shot and hope for the best. Im going to practice with one of them on friday and hope to draw blood this weekend with them.

Been following this thread. Great info for thought. All my kills have been with Spitfires and a crossbow. I switched to Rage and thats when I had the 2 years of bad luck but it was my bow and me...BUT..Every deer I tracked and didnt find with my dog and weak blood trails after finally giving up and asking the shooter was Rage . Every single one. And every one of those same deer were seen alive in the following gun season save for one which was found dead weeks later but had suffered alive for over a week. Needless to say I have switched back to spitfires just in case cause hell, they always performed. But that was my crossbow at a million ft per nanosecond, lol. Im a little worried about it now tho with the new compound and a measley 40 lbs. Oh and here is the other thing....(please dont hit me)...I have never ever shot any broadhead into my practice target for fear of dulling them...(ducks quick and covers her head). Will it dull my spitfires?

Saddlepants, yes it will dull them But spitfires usually come with a sent of practice blade that you have to screw in to the blade slot. they are not really blades per se but they are more like weight fillers. they will fly the same as they do with the blades in. Now to answer your question i would nto recommend spitfires for a compound with that low of draw weight. i would rather see you go with a cut on contact head like a magnus stinger or a Muzzy phantom my nephew shot his first deer at 15 yards with a 43 pound bow and he hit the rib and it slid up and through the area between the leg and ribs. the deer survived but an I am more convinced that his muzzy mx-3 ( trocar tip) hit a rib bone and slid down the side as opposed to penetration.

It will dull them but just use 1 as a practice head. You can still have the other two to hunt with.
Interesting that you helped track so many lost and wounded deer for people shooting rage BH... IMO they are nothing but marketing hype.. Sure it'll kill a deer if you shoot them ideally. But so will a field point.. There are plenty of stories on the net about people losing deer while shooting Rage broadheads. And every one of them have a common trend. Very little penetration and the arrow didn't exit.

I shot my slick trick heads to day all I can say is wow. I shot a field point with the st to see if it was the same and it was I have never seen a fix blade shot like this before and they penetrated just as much as the field point. I will never us a mechanical head again. Thanks guys for getting me on them.

Yep. I was not impressed with the holes left by the Montec on Jamie's doe last weekend. He put it right through her heart, so it was a perfect shot and she died inside 60 yards. However, the lack of blood trail and tiny holes were not the least bit impressive. I'd take the Rage slit over that "hole" any day. I can't wait to drive a golf ball sized hole through a deer!!!
I love checking out broadheads, tend to look for new ones every year. Bought slick tricks probably 5 years ago and they're great. I also have the Basspro blackouts (basically G5 styker) they fly great as well. This year I bought into the Tomcats after reading sooo many reviews. They fly just as good as advertised. Most bowhunters probably find one broadhead and wouldn't dare carry more than 1 style in their quiver....lol i'm not that guy. I carry 4 different ones. But slick tricks will always be one of them.
I have a buddy that has switched broadheads 3 time this year. He shot rage when a blade broke on a doe he shot, then he switched to G% expandables and couldn't get them to open up. Now he's shooting NAP Hellrazors and doesnt have any problems with them..:smiley_chinrub:

I liked the g5 strykers too but the threaded part broke off on all three broadheads in the last pack i bought. So i switch completely to ST last year.

Ok so I've read allot about the Slick tricks and Im thinking I might go with the Razors or the mags. Its just my spitfires are brand new from last year. Such a waste. BTW - My tracking hounds were great even when there was no blood. Im convinced we followed the one deer still living for hours in a complete 2 mile circle before I gave up. he crossed a hay feild in a perfect X. Was found dead there in same hay field (cut short) a week or so later by the farmer. There was NO blood in the field. Hank would bay and pull hard if I stopped for a break. All the deer that he made noise on were still alive. I learned from those expiriences eventually and knew it was time to quit.

Oh now see you guys just opened another whole can of worms. Listening to all this I feel like I have a pile of crap sitting here. I dont like inhumane shots from the wrong equipment but I cant run and spend a bunch of $$ TOOday. So do I hunt with what I have and hope for the best or sit home and do homework ,lol. Or fire up my crossbow in which I KNOW kills quick and lug that heavy sucker around again.
I would never hunt with anything I didn't know I was 100% accurate with , with my broadhead setup, including poundage. That's why I shoot my x-bow, instead of a low low poundage bow. I catch crap from people from other sites, but that is why I don't go to them much anymore. That is what makes it Too good over here.

Personally I would be leery shooting spitfires out of a 40 lb bow.. I've never done it so maybe others can chime in... But to be honest I would even be leery of something like slick tricks due to the blade angle... I would look into something like magnus stingers. Something with a Less steep blade angle that will save all of the kinetic energy for penetration and not opening blades, or punching blades into the deer... Blades like magnus are designed to split bone or slide between them easily.. Vs cut them by sheer force..

Well I was reading about the slick tricks and a woman with a 40 lb bow. She made a good kill on a hog with the Razors and another on something else with the Mags. Differnt women with 40 lb set ups so that got my attention quick. Hogs are tough.

I'll admit i haven't done much reading on lower KE bows and Slick tricks. I know the spitfires will rob some KE deploying the blades, ST will use some due to the blade angle. But something like a magnus will use less than the other two.
