I agree Brian, and honestly, I'd rather run around in the woods and plan hunts than actually hunt any day of the week!

I decided to shut the alarm off this morning. I was up pretty late watching the OSU game, and I just didn't want to go in and bump deer in the dark. It will wait till this afternoon... Mason, however, had to get out in the woods a bit even though we weren't hunting deer. He went into our woods with his Marauder. He wasn't out long... He shot two. One at about 70, the other about 50yds. That's a long way for a pellet gun, but it is a pretty good one, and he is a pretty good shot with it.

He just proclaimed, "I'm shooting a deer tonight". "That 8 point had better not come by again"... wtheck! He's waited all season on these big suckers, but apparently his will to kill is getting the best of him. I don't blame him a bit. It's been a long season, he's put in a lot of effort...he can shoot whatever he wants. I really hope it's a big one!

Saw a doe, two fawns and either two or four bucks on Saturday evening. Tonight we saw four bucks, one of which was pretty close to getting the hammer dropped. He wasn't a giant, but we are getting a little short on time. He may not be so lucky tomorrow.

Finally! We've been hunting this sucker just assuming he was still alive. I haven't had a picture of him since Halloween. He is such a recluse I assumed he was still with us, and there is a good chance if he had been killed I would have heard about it by now. It is GREAT to see him alive and well! We may never kill him, but it is a great relief knowing he is still around to be hunted. Hunting for a deer and not knowing if he is still alive is tough to do! Mason will have a little extra pep in his step this afternoon when we head out I'm sure.

Here are some pics from earlier for those that haven't seen him.

Ric, Ron... looks like those drops and kickers have survived! I didn't figure him to be much of a fighter. This wimp seems to hide a lot, can't imagine him slugging it out much. :)

Me too, I'd say. Mason was dead set on him or nothing going into this season. Then we found the other one he was running around with and he figured either of them would do. Now, he's dropped his standards to 150... hehe. I bet when I show him this pic he goes right back to "all or nothing". We have a couple of really nice ones on this farm, that we've actually seen. It's getting pretty deep into the season, he's put in a lot of effort, and if he decides to shoot something else at this point, I'll be thrilled for him. It's been a pretty fair year even without a buck on the ground!

Brock,
If you don't score on him this year...what do you thing your chances are on finding his sheds?
It will be interesting to see if they are found how far they are from his core area you believed them to be.

I know where we are going to look for them! The area we were hunting him is close to a mile from where I got the latest pic. There are some horribly thick hillsides back there, and seemingly all the deer in the area are there. It surrounds the wheat field we have been hunting the last week or so. It's a huge field, we've been seeing a lot of deer (relatively) using that field. Eventually, he may show up. I'm banking on it at least... I am fortunate to have picked the right spot, I think. We've been getting in and out without deer busting us, though I had to stay pretty late the other night waiting for deer to clear the field. If a good one doesn't show with shooting light tonight, I'll be praying for bitter cold. I think it's just a matter of the right one showing with shooting light. The fact that he is alive is enough to keep hope alive, heck, I was hopeful even though I had not had a pic forever. This dude freaks out when he sees a camera like no deer I've seen before. Hopefully, we'll bump into him before season's end, but if not, I'll be crawling through those thickets in March!
