Have any of you extremely knowledgeable whitetail killers ever shot a buck from his bed while targeting that bed not just an area? Just watching thp has me thinking more and more.

I have made the plan twice and never took the shot. Snuck in and out both times without the deer knowing I was ever around. Both times it was raining that nasty drizzle low visibility almost foggy crap. Wind blowing 20+ mph.

Back in my days of figuring out what a trophy was...Oh well.

I've thought about, never attempted it. Instead I try to get in between bed and another resource. Was always worried that if I got too close to the bed for too long or too many times they would pack up and move.

Up here, I've yet to see one bed in the exact same spot from one day to the next. They tend to have a 5-10 acre area, or larger, that they prefer to use for bedding... But picking the right one to set up on is next to impossible. I wish it were that easy. Lol

Like Jagermeister said, ive never seen one bed in same spot time after time. I to try to avoid the bedding area like Chass said. I tto feel you disturb that area much and theyll vacate that area. If they dont feel safe , they wont be there. In my opinion youll do more harm than good.

I'm with Jagermeister. They aren't that regular. Might bed in some areas more than others. I don't think they bed exactly the same day after day.

Other issue I see is we have small properties (most of us anyhow). On public ground (like THP), what do they care if they blow out a deer? They will just slide on down to the next spot. No worries about blowing them off properties they have permission on (most times.)

I laugh at the term "bedding area", nevermind the unicorn that is a "buck bed". Bedding happens just about everywhere around here and while there may be enough consistency to call an area of high use a bedding area, those areas still aren't a given. I've found 2 beds in my 20+ years that I was certain were buck beds and both were found late summer when they're super predictable. It's just not a tactic that works around here.

That said, I killed my first wall hanger with this technique after finding an area of condensed sign so obvious, there was no missing the fact a buck was spending most of his time there. Because the area had been brushhogged recently, it narrowed down the options enough for a wind bump and I killed him standing up from his bed. Still the "craziest" idea I've ever had that work to perfection.

My stories are after spotting a bedded buck. Much like a lot of THP. You watch the deer bed and then get aggressive. Not just going in blind bumble fucking around a bedding area.

I have shot a few does during gun seasons doing that though. Slow creep with the wind in your face.
