As the seasons days go by, I feel my "buck" standards going down. It's easy to say that you shouldn't shoot a deer on the last day that you passed on the first, but damn. How do you guys deal with this? Even small deer are looking good this time of year! Lol

Late season always produces big deer. They are worn down from the rut and hungry...wait til a good cold spell and take advantage of it.

This year I feel like a have a better chance waiting for my daughter clean her room! Last year I took an old buck during ML, but I wasn't having the problems I am this year. I had a lot of anticipation this year for one particular deer. And I've only seen him once so far...has my mind wondering around aimlessly at this point. That's not a good thing! Lol

You just need cold weather and patience. 2 years ago I had my target buck 20 yards away an hour before dark and saw him in the backyard around noon the same day. Temp was probably-10 and that was the only time seeing him during daylight in months.

I feel your pain.... I've been lucky the last 3 seasons to have shot my buck before gun season. However, late season is probably my most favorite time to hunt. I'm holding out strong and will hit it when and if it ever gets cold! I'm ok with eating that tag if necessary. I'd rather be content with shooting one that I'd shoot at the beginning of the season, just my opinion though.

Shoot one if it comes in and tickles your fancy though. Nobody needs to be happy with him but you. The only expectations I have to fulfill are the ones I set upon my own shoulders. Same goes for you Giles. It isn't like we have sponsors paying our bills we need to satisfy. There is NO shame in eating a tag if you don't see one to get you excited. If a smaller one gets you excited? Kill him dead.

If me and the kids can ever make it back down to hunt I think we will all be in that boat LOL! Can't blame you if you do!!

The problem with that Phil, is that all deer make me pee on myself! As soon as I see a deer, or even hear one, my heart tries to escape my body. And IF I see bone, FML...then my stomach tries to flea the scene with my heart.

Are the insides of your knees dark and stinky?

I'm not trying to impress anyone. I'm trying to find ways to deal with the pressure of taking home the hot chick and not the fat chick. My dick doesn't care either way, but my mind has goals. Trying to make one over power the other has seemed to be a bit difficult lately, as I've only seen one hot chick and plenty of fat ones.

Giles I feel you pain. Setting a goal is great for the challenge aspect but damnit if doubt doesn't start creeping in about now. Add to the fact I told a few people I wouldn't shave till I had a buck down or the season ends and I really fucked myself up!

Yup, my a-mish buck beard is really annoying right now!

I agree, I'm only trying to satisfy ME.

I have set some personal goals/limits on what I want to shoot. If it happens, it happens. If not, then so be it.

I will be happy either way.

Like you said, if it happens to tickle my fancy, I'll know at that time.

I got corn flowing and I'm awaiting some COLD....

Two things to keep in mind Giles.

1. For every hot chick there's a guy who's sick of listening to her.

2. Fat chicks are like mopeds. Fun to ride but don't let your friends see you do it.

Not sure if this helps you at all with your buck hunting but I thought it needed to be said.
