This opening weekend of 2012 I was accompanied by my children Anna (7) and Brendan (4). Anna is not so much the Huntress but past history tells me that she enjoys tagging along with Daddy a time or two throughout the seasons. Brendan on the otherhand, well the verdict is not out yet on his commitment to hunting, but I think I strong feeling that he's got "The Itch". He's been talking about going deer hunting for the past 3 weeks now. He says he loves his deer meat so he's commited to getting some. He can "help" me for the time being.
Our plan was to hunt the ground blind in which we baited the night before with corn. Here is Brendan at the blind with his activity bag. He didn't even use his Tablet, DS, coloring books, or snacks. He was just interested in deer hunting.
About 6:30 I look over and Brendan had fallen asleep. He had a long day so I let him sleep until 7:00. He demanded I delete this picture from my phone and not to post it on the internet but here goes anyways.
About 6:45 we did have a deer sneak up from behind us and wind us. The deer snorted from about 25 yards behind us. I looked at Anna and her mouth was wide open. I think she missed the next breath or two it scared her so bad. We just laughed about it as the deer ran off to safety. She learned Deer Language that snorting means, "Danger, Run!" Brendan remained napping so he missed the episode. That's all the action we had for Saturday evening.
We awoke on Sunday morning. Anna wanted to stay back at the cabin but Brendan wanted to go hunting again.
He and I tried our third ground blind overlooking this food plot.
Our hunt for the morning ended with another day of squirrels and blue jays. I think the moon phase did not help with deer movement during the day this past weekend.
Brendan says he's going back to the cabin next weekend to deer hunt. Stay tuned.
I love it! Food plot looks great! Kids are cute as can be! Story has pictures to keep me entertained. Got to see (or at least hear one) up close. Brendan caught some zzzz's. Great stuff Ben!
Here's a couple teaser pics courtesy of our camp guest Bob this weekend.
These small bucks were caught on film this weekend. They were saved for another year.
