So when I am at work and some gun-law breaking criminal invades my home with a 30round(or more) mag equipped gun.My law abiding wife gets a 10round mag equipped gun to protect herself an the kids???...Makes sense, and sounds logical......Right?

Any determined person (a real sicko) could have replicated the results at Sandy Hook with a bolt action rifle fed with 5 round stripper clips. When you have unarmed people in a room peculiarly small scared children with no escape the shooter can pretty much do whatever they want. That's the sad reality in this situation. There will always be firearms and evil people in this world. If we/the Government disarm the nation everyday people will be at the wicked persons mercy until they either kill themselves, or the police arrive. If a person is determined to cause harm to you or other people the only way to end it is to stop them. One day the wicked people maybe our own Government. If that happens God forbid you'll be happy or wish you had a semi automatic rifle with multiple 30 round magazines and a handgun. That's why the second amendment was written, so we the people can defend ourselves from a tyrannical Government.
The shooting last week was an unthinkable tragedy but it should not fear people in to giving up their freedoms which where paid for in blood by our forefathers.

I do not own a AR. I do own one semi auto shotgun everything else is either bolt action or a pump. Even though I do not use any of these semi auto assault rifles with 30 round clips I have a hard time telling someone who does and has fun shooting them ata range they can not. Even if they limit the number of rounds a clip can hold people who are planning on breaking the law and commiting heinous crimes is not going to follow the law anyways. The anti gun people trying to say we dont want all of your guns just assault rifles or smaller clips knowing that if they can get one they will turn around and go after them all. This will not just end with this and they are willing to do anything to get what they want. Look how they are willing to use every tragedy where some mentally unstable person shoots innocent victims for their own political gain. I dont see this ending well, there is a breaking point as history has shown over the years.

We are all in for quite a ride on this one - this debate is going to be long and hard. And unfortunately, the nationwide debate will be nowhere as civil as this thread has been.

Our patience is going to be tested severely (along with our rights). As sportsmen, I believe we hold the high road. I hope we always show it as such.

Hedj, great post. Lots of great posts here. And for any of those who have divergent opinions, I say well done for having the courage to speak up.

This is not going to be easy. People engaging in this debate (on both sides) ususally have pre-formed strong opinions and are not known for being willing to listen, or show respect for other views.

Dark days are ahead and I'm not sure whether to stand up and face them, or duck and cover. I'm trying to scramble and get my hands on an AR right now and it don't look good. I knew I should have bought one years ago...

Same here, I doubt I get the purchase made this close to Christmas, I heard yesterday that the Fin Feather and Fur in Ashland was almost sold completely out.

Ever wonder why we don't see more mass killings at gun ranges? at no single point is there a location with more firepower than at some gune ranges... you know where people are shooting multiple AR's and large capacity clips....think about that one a minute..

I saw this coming down the pipe for a few months and have been slowly saving to build or buy a AR..I am still about one month out I would say.........I want a M&P Sport 15(in budget and seems to do what I need one to do),which the shop has tons of right not..But I doubt they have that many a week from now,let alone a month..

I would up your budget at least a couple hundred bucks. When they do get their next shipments in, I would almost guarantee the sticker price is going to be higher.

I'm suprised the government didn't try to ban 747's after 9-11 and make everyone fly in cessnas. I mean after all the big airplane was the problem.
