Here is a short video on how to make char cloth. Char cloth is made of out 100% cotton material and when a spark is introduced it quickly ignites - add some tinder and you have a fire. Char cloth is very very light and should be in your hunting survival kit.

I made some on my grill last night using the accessory burner. I didn't have a tight fitting tin container, so I used aluminum foil as a lid with a small hole in the top. I think the char cloth could have used some more time and I probably should have used a much small container. Once done, it took several attempts to get it lit so I am not happy with what I made last night. I will be trying again with a smaller container and possibly longer cooking time. I know the whole principle behind making char cloth is to heat the cloth in an oxygen deprived vessel, so using the big container like I did should have been alright, but I just needed to give it more time.

from left to right
pouch, char cloth maker and container (breath mint tin with two holes punched in the lid), cotton (to be turned in to char cloth as need), knuckle buster (I made mine out of an old steel file), flint, char cloth, nest making material (today its manila rope)
I've impressed many girls on campouts and at bonfires by making fire without a match or lighter. Just FYI

Picked up a smaller container on the way home and have a new batch going now.

Here is another way to use your char cloth. I have been wanting to make one of these. They are called fire pistons. They would be easy to make on a wood lathe.
