Climber height?

You people are nuts. No way in heck my lumpy carcass would be 40' up a tree. I haven't hunted from a climber in a few years now, but they certainly have their place. I always liked to have a tree that forked 15 to 20 feet up. I would climb to the fork. I don't think I've ever been spotted in a climber. Trying to hide in a straight tree just doesn't make sense to me. I know people have killed a lot of deer from them, I would just feel too out in the open.

40'?! Nope. Not happening. Feel like you'd need one of those angle compensation rangefinders at that height. I agree with brock, find a tree w/ a fork and go up to the fork.

40'? No fuggin way!! My favorite tree is a double forked at the bottom. That way I can set up between the 2 trees.

Haven't used a climber in several years but when I did I would normally get about 20' up. One thing I always tried to find is a good tree that was really close to another tree. I would use the other tree for cover.

I'm working 40 ft in the air today told the guy I'm working it seems way higher than what I climb when I'm hunting. The old smoke tower is gonna have a 160 ft stair case around it and we gotta put it up not to excited about that.

And Tee, as long as your looking uphill its only about 20', turn around and it'll take you breath away!

Just an example of what others were saying about terrain dictating stand height. I am 25' up, I am almost downhill from this shot. I am also in a double trunked tree using the bigger branches behind me break up my outline.

In the end, you know your property and where the deer like to go. Come with a few ideas and see which one you think will work best.
