Cold weather gear

After being out all day yesterday and with the drops in temps and mid 30 mph wind gusts I'm a believer in the cabelas EWS cold gear and the UA cold hear head gator.... I was very comfortable being out there and stayed warm the entire day....
Another item I'm really happy with is the Fox River socks that I'd purchased while deployed because the guys using them praised their wicking capabilities.... They worked great in 115+ temps but was wondering how'd they handle the opposite of the spectrum???
They worked great and wick the moisture away very well.... Feet stayed comfortable all day as well....

Like we talked at the muzzy hunt, anything Cabelas ECWS and UA Cold Gear is worth the money. Especially base layers and stuff for your extremities.

Exactly, well worth the expense... The older I get the less tolerance I have for the cold.... But my drive hasn't changed so buying these keeps me out while in the extreme cold temps...,
 
Heard that. I froze my ears, fingers, toes and dick off all the time when I was younger. Always been thin blooded. When I finally had money to afford quality gear, that was one of the first things I bought. It's been a great investment and has certainly extended my time on stand, as well as made it more tolerable.

When I was younger, with kids still in elementary school, money was tight and it seems looking back on it I'd always have the money for substandard cold weather gear but not for the good stuff..... If I'd of bought less of the substandard stuff I could of afforded the higher end stuff that actually worked lol....

Very true statement. Glad you found some fear that works good for you!
 
That was the problem of most of us when we were younger and raising kids. We didn't have a large amount of money at one time to buy the best and always had to buy a lower grade substandard items that didn't work well.
As I got older and more ready cash I've gotten the best but some of my best is 25 yr old Cabela's. Last year I bought Cabela's Extreme Cold Weather coverall and it works great for setting but so damn heavy for walking. But my hunting operation is all setting so it works out. The wife setting in our warm house doesn't understand my buying but she looks for closeout items at years end. She never complains and my joke with someone 'can you believe Frank just bought $200 insulated underwear'. My comment 'it's damn warm too'.
 
I think the Cabell stuff does just as good a job as the UA, but at a better price. IMO, UA is pricing themselves out of the game. They do make nice stuff, but they have you by the balls now, because you'll pay that extra $$$ for the logo. Really turned off by their prices over the last two years.

We have an outlet up by where Huck went too school and they have some deals every once and a while, that's where most of my UA stuff comes from... Usually 30-50% savings when I buy it.... But agree with the retail pricing....

Mickey Mouse boots for me and predator gear. If I could have kept my hands warm I would have been out for several more hours... Walking a bunch no way.. Sitting to endure, yep

Yep. I have a couple UA hats but that's about it. I've considered them overpriced and overrated since playing college baseball. I never thought the cold gear was as good as what the price tag reflected.

Mickey boots are awesome! Especially for ice fishing.
 
Micky mouse boots are the shit. I was pulling guard once on a stupid mountain in Korea when it was -30 out. Between the Micky mouse boots and teddy bear suit I was quite comfortable. Not very mobile but you really don't have to be when you're just standing in a hole. Lol.

These are my next purchase! I got 400 gram Irish Setters this year and they have performed great, but I need a little more.

I'm not into the boot covers and the thermacell insoles look nice, but the price..... NO. I just fear they would die on me after a year.

Bunny boots sound right!! Right price and right reviews.
 
I had a pair of Mickey boots that I bought at a gun show for 10 bucks. I had them for over 20 years. The only boots I've ever owned that kept my feet warm.
 
My bride bought me a pair of therms cell insoles the first year they started selling them. I tried them once. Went home with numb feet. I would have sent them back but she was proud of the great gift idea... I have a barn full of great gifts. :)
