College Football Thread

"Just means more" 🤣

The problem is that he's 1,000% correct. It's not about kids, their future, or their educational development. It's about pay-to-play, conference profits, ad slots and "who goan pay me". It's a massive disservice to college athletes where 90% of them are never going to see the pros. Chewed up, spit out, and left with a couple bucks in their pocket. College football especially has lost focus on the reason college athletic programs exist in the first place and that's to give athletic individuals a shot at an education that will hopefully serve them post-sports. That becomes exponentially harder when kids are transferring schools and degree programs multiple times chasing money because we've created a system that rewards that behavior. For some fans, they may not care because it benefits their side, but the truth is it's hard to find fault with anything he testified on at that hearing.

Colleges shouldn't have that kind of profit to be able to pay these kids. That right there is a problem in itself. College has lost the focus. I can't blame the kids for getting some of it.

Say it louder Nick.

I suddenly like Nick Saban.

Very true, they do it through NIL collectives that per the rules shouldn't be used for recruiting, yet for some reason the schools control the collective.

Where was that 30 million dollar roster money going before this? Those are the questions that have been raised in my head. If a school/business was making that kind of money off my kids, I would want them to get some of it. That amount would very depending on skill. Democracy

So in order to correct my moral compass on this we must first figure out why the money is even available. Because I do agree that these kids need to not be wearing $30,000 in jewelry on the sidelines. Maybe add a class to teach taxes, investing and proper money management. Give them some life skills that carry beyond the reach of the stadium.

Put the money in a trust?

Theoretically it didn't exist. NILs are funded through donations, corporate sponsorships, autographed merchandise sales, personal brand partnerships etc.

The collective reaches out to a big insurance company in Columbus and says "hey do you want to buy our buckeye package it includes one commercial with our star QB, two commercials with our two best recievers, a personal apperance for autographs, and the ability to say you and QB make a great team" The insurance company says "sweet shit heres 750k". Then the collective goes all over the state making a similar deal with other businesses. Once they're done they say. "Hey we have a 5 million dollar NIL budget for a QB and a couple receivers. We don't like our current QB so we're not going to pay him, go hit the portal and see if you can't get a new QB and promise to give him 3 mil in NIL deals that we have lined up if he comes here to play. Oh and see what reciever you can get for 1 mil because we may have oversold the one we have.
