It's been a great little tractor, super easy to work on, I did points, condenser, distributor cap plugs and wires all in about 15 minutes haha

My first tractor was a 1946 Ford 2N with a Sherman transmission. Great little tractor for flat land only. You do get a nice ride trying to brush hog SE Ohio hills with a 5' hog, especially going downhill on dew grass. Makes your butthole pucker sometimes. :smiley_coolpeace:

good luck, you won't be upset about getting a 4wd tractor. I know in Noble county I never take that tractor out of 4wd! I am sure you'll be in the same in Athens area buddy!

I also suggest the front end loader, wasn't sure how much Id use it but I love IT! Use it all the time!

For firewood and so on, that would be the bomb. I know I would use it alot! I'm planning on a finish mower, rear blade and loader. That's alot of $$ in itself though.

I have a BX2230 Kubota and love it! I bought it new 8 years ago and it's still going strong.
Good luck Jake in finding your first tractor. Don't settle in your search. If you want a 4x4 I suggest you pull the trigger! Lol

I know its a lot of money but if you can swing it by any means, you won't regret it bud. That front end loader will also give you good weight on the front of the tractor, if that tractor gets stuck it'll allows you to get out of jams, etc.

I am not expert but I just would highly recommend it for you.

my old barber in Athens used to cut hair under bromley hall. He farmed 400 acres out in Albany, mostly horses he said. He told me he bought a tractor with a front end loader for the first time in 45 years. Said he was going to sell it to his friend, but the friend said to use it for a week, if he still didn't want it he'd buy it off him. After that week came and went, the old barber said it was the best tool he's ever had on a tractor. He talked to me about the balancing of the tractor and how much he enjoyed bushhoggin with it.

That story made me consider it much more when I went to buy our first tractor. Not trying to be pushy but had to share that with you!

Best of luck, tractor shopping is fun!

Great input guys. I'll keep my eyes open for Mahindras also, we have a Mahindra dealer right up the road, and a Kubota dealer not far from that. So all the more reason to look into those two.

Just priced out a couple Kubota and John deeres both near my house. Kubota is quite a bit more.

Tip- ask about any new trade ins. I stumbled on a 1023e from John Deere for under 10g with 13 hours on it. By time I add front end loader, belly mower, and till be about 15g. That's 10g less than new Kubotas I got prices on. New John deeres we're still less and I ain't a brand guy so I'll probably own a Green machine after too long.

I drove to NW Ohio and back to SW Ohio this past weekend and seen multiple on the roadsides for sale. I also know the auto traders are selling way more than autos these days.

What do you mow with now? I'm in the market for something new...I could possibly help you fund a new unit.

I have heard both ways about Mahindra. Zero first hand experience with them so I really don't know. They sure do market them pretty heavy around here. Just not sure if the claims about complaints were valid or just haters.

Right now all I have is a gravely zero turn. 60" cut, commercial. It's a great mower, but not at all practical for the land I'm looking at

Mahindra tractors are very well constructed and they offer a great warranty. Gordo has a mid-30s HP Mahindra and it's been good to him. Everyone I know that has one, likes them. You can get more HP for the same money. You're paying for paint color as much as quality with JD (and I love JD). That said, Kubota is the shit. Both dad's (55 and 25 HP) are great tractors. I'm bringing the small one over in a week or so to do some work. For a small, compact tractor, it gets shit done. I'd own one if I had a little bigger spread to justify the expense.
