And then it's on to tackle the biggest threat facing sportsmen today right? Non wildlife management DNR heads who pander to special interest and thus destroy deer hunting to the point of driving away participation. Lol.

Not kidding. Look at what happened to grouse, pheasant, and quail numbers. Where are the hundreds of thousands of upland hunters today. They quit and as such so did future generations. The same or very similar is happening to out deer populations. Eventually when our numbers are down and people quit participating or getting their kids interested; the antis will strike. And when they do, the call to arms for defense of hunting will fall on deaf ears.

It's my steadfast opinion That the biggest threat to hunting we face today is not the antis. It's farm bureau, insurance companies, and non wildlife management politicians at the helms of our DNRs. The best thing that has ever happened to deer hunting in regards to participation is the big buck craze. Not only did participation explode but so did industry. Without big bucks, and very good numbers of them, the trend will reverse. Without good does and good numbers of them it'll be hard to produce them, get kids interested, or keep people in stands. We can only provide so much management assistance to make better bucks, to an extent it's a numbers game. The more you have the better your odds of producing better ones. Cull the crappy ones, let the others walk. You can't do that if you never had the numbers to begin with and every tom dick and Harry "gets their buck".

Ok. Sorry about that. It was only meant to be a one liner. Lol. Rant off.

Just seen they have an APP in the app store for the USSA lmao. Didn't know that until I was looking for something else and happened to see it. Just thought I would pass the info along.

Oh yeah. We're all technological and stuff.

We are going to have a much fresher online presence very soon. Pretty exciting stuff really, there's a lot going on right now and some cool collaborations that we're also working on. I can't say too much but more to come. : )

Great to hear Sean! How are you finding your daily tasks when compared to what you had imagined prior to starting?

Real good question that could ramble on for quite a while. I've had the opportunity to get plugged into many different projects very quickly. As an organization we're very quick thinking and can mobilize on an issue as soon as it pops up. I'd say that the overall work we're doing, and the level of involvement we have across the country is pretty amazing (telling that story is something that we need to do better). We are very efficient in accomplishing tasks with the resources available, but there are still so many more things we could get involvement in. When you consider that a very large portion of the issues we become involved with are against the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) who working with an operating budget in excess of $100 million dollars, then we are damn good at fighting the good fight. Our budget isn't anywhere near that. As a growing organization there are many good things on the horizon, and the more we can grow the more we can do for Sportsmen everywhere.

Here's some info on a ballot issue we're working on for bear hunting in Maine. As you'll see, HSUS is dumping a ton on money into the state...

I said I'd keep you all posted on stuff so here ya go...

Here's a link to a recent video from C-Span featuring the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance's Bill Horn. It's the full show, so if you've got time have a watch. If you can't watch the full show, the first 5 minutes provide some insight to efforts we're working on to protect our outdoor traditions across the country at the state level (which is where the majority of attacks occur). It also speaks to why USSA needs as many hunters, trappers, and anglers to become members as possible.

Very nice site Sean! I encourage everyone to read the "about us" for a better understanding what they've done and what they're/we're up against, in the past, future and present.

The last paragraph summed it up in a nutshell.
As it has for 36 years, USSA continues to be the leading organization fighting coast to coast against any legislation or action that threatens your outdoor heritage, while at the same time, proactively advancing legislation that allows more opportunities for sportsmen.
