What sort of time does it take to make it to state in Michigan? I know I ran a 17:15 at regionals and did not make it in my day.

Our entire boys team made it this year. Might be the first time we've made it as a team. Our Coach is not blood family, but essentially another uncle to me. He has had kids at state three years in a row. Love seeing their successes knowing it was due to his years of building the program.

It truly depends on the region in Michigan. They take top 17 for our Division III schools. We are in the Detroit region so there are a lot of schools from that area that didn’t have kids to compete. Top time for his group was just under 19 and he came in 17th at 21:06. Over a minute over his PR earlier this year. Course was a muddy slippery mess.

You running a 17 and you didn’t make it?? Damn, must have had a lot to compete against.
Nearly 30 years ago. Now I can only run the .1 at the end. Someone else needs to cover the first 3 miles for me. Lol

Looking forward to seeing how he does at state. Hopefully better conditions and a new PR for him. That is what I love about XC: whether you are running 16:00 or 36:00 or somewhere in between, it is a personal challenge between you and the clock. You can improve every race and be happy, no matter where you place. And you can be happy for every team mate as they improve throughout the season. Doesn't matter if Johnny got a cramp and sucked. Doesn't matter if Tommy rolled an ankle. If YOU improve your personal best. . . It brings a smile to your face and you know your hard work is paying off.
