I'd never done it, but listening to Torry Cook preach about how important it is to them to locate coyotes before they go in to hunt them, I took a drive last night after the family was in bed. I hit two public land spots reasonably close to home. The combo of the MFK Pretty Deadly Howler diaphragm and my amp horn got responses at both, so that felt pretty good.

I got a large group to respond to me at the first stop, and honestly, close to where I expected them to be. It was on the same ridge I hunted on my last outing. The other stop, I got a lone coyote to respond in a location I would not have expected. I'm positive it was off of public and on private, but in a location I can potentially call him over. It's worth a shot on my next outing, which probably won't be for a week or so. Busy times coming up. It was good to hear some responses and confirm a couple of things, anyway.

Last I heard mrex was stomping that area pretty hard. So you might have to get creative with how you hunt them. Or get with him and see what he's doing that is working.

I wouldn't be surprised. I was close to his place last night. At this point, with what I have learned about what the coyotes should be doing right now (prepping for denning or starting to den), I'll probably wait a little while before I hit them again. And when I do, hit them with some pup distress. I'll locate one more time before I hunt them again, locating the night before I hunt so I'm relatively sure I'm spending time where I need to be.
