My daughter is 6, I’d love to get her shooting a crossbow so that next year she could do some hunting. I’m not sure where to start though? Any brands I should look at? Are there youth sizes? Thanks fellas!

Mason had a scaled down Horton. Next was an Excalibur Ibex. It has a fairly short stock and laid atop a Caldwell Field Pod in a blind, any kid can shoot it. I loaned the field pod to my buddy so his daughter could use it this year. She has never fired a gun or crossbow at an animal until a couple days ago. As you can see, the field pod makes accurate shooting easy...

Parker Challenger is a great crossbow for women and kids. There are no parts for them anymore, but they are built like a little tank. Strings can be gotten at 60X strings. I just ordered a Wicked Ridge M370. Supposed to be the lightest crossbow in production today. Their warranty and customer service is excellent! I also got Glenna a Bog Fieldpod to hold the crossbow. It runs a little under 100. but will hold the full weight of the bow. This will let you get away with more weight with the little ones.

I second the wicked ridge and Excalibur. Both are quality bows with a variety of price ranges. If you’ve got Giles money, look into ten point also...they’ve got a new cocking/deco king device available for most models.

I also started with the Recruit. It lasted 4 years and killed a bunch of deer in the hands of alot of people. Once it started acting up, I should've ditched it and bought something else. They're cheap and work just fine for killing deer and getting kids involved. Great for entry level but know when to move on. I didn't and wounded a few deer because of my ego.

I don’t think any X-bow with lesser draw weight and low total weight of a crossbow will work… I remember my dad and older bro said something like a youth crossbow must be easy to cock and fire. PSE Insight Trainer (considered as the best x-bow for youth by most experts https://wildproofgear.com/best-crossbows-under-200/ ) You certainly can’t hunt with that, but I’m afraid a 6 y.o. girl will have trouble with the Wicked Ridge M370, while the PSE Trainer weighs 2 lbs less, no recoil and has just ~60 lbs draw weight. I would start with this one. It’s a simple budget pick for the price. It doesn’t feature some unique stuff like Acudraw and default bolts are cheap. But the M370 which costs like 700+ usd should be her next level x-bow. However, it’s all depends on a budget you are ready to invest in her first weapon.

Certainly, when it comes to finding the best crossbow for 8 year old, safety and ease of use are paramount. I'd recommend a youth crossbow that is specifically designed for younger archers. These crossbows are generally lighter, have a lower draw weight, and are easier to handle.

1. Barnett Youth Recruit Recurve Crossbow: This is a popular choice for younger archers. It has a draw weight of around 30 pounds, making it manageable for an 8-year-old. It also comes with safety features like an anti-dry fire trigger.

2. Wicked Ridge Ranger X2: This crossbow is another excellent option. It has a built-in cocking device, which makes it easier for a young archer to load. The draw weight is around 35 pounds, and it also includes safety mechanisms.

3. SA Sports Fever Crossbow: This is a budget-friendly option with a draw weight of 175 pounds, but it includes a rope cocking device to make it easier for younger users. It's a bit heavier but offers good performance for the price.

Remember to always supervise your child while they are using the crossbow and ensure they are educated on all safety protocols. With the right guidance and equipment, crossbow shooting can be a fun and rewarding experience for your 8-year-old.
