Ran out of things to do at work today so I said Fugg it and left around noon. I wasnt far from Delaware so i decided to go look around a couple spots i havent been to yet.
As i was driving down the gravel lane leading to the area I was headed to a doe jumped from the tall grass along the side and ran into the woods. That was a good sign.

The first area I went to was all but impossible to get through due to the thick brush. i did come across some trails with good sized tracks in them, but the skeeters were killing me. I decided to look at that spot a little more during or after season. I'm sure there are some pockets of open woods in there and a way to get to them.

I walked back out to the jeep and continued down the lane a little farther till I came to a spot where the deer were clearly coming in and out of the woods. I could see from the lane that the woods opened up a little further back so i figured i would check it out. As soon as i stepped in i spotted big floppy ears in the tall grass ahead and to my left. I stood still and watched a fawn that had all but lost its spots move along the edge and duck back into a thicket. I hadnt gone another 100 yards when i heard a comotion to my right and turned to see a big nanny doe run along the edge of a field and back into the woods. A little further along i heard something crashing through but never caught site of what it was. As I was walking back to where I parked i came across an open oak flat loaded with old rubs. Looked to me like a staging area.

Three deer and a possible stand location in less than an hour. I'm encouraged.

Had a busy day today. Went to the east property to hang a set and pull a cam. The cam has been on a month long soak in a spot I have been getting pics of Mr. T as well as a few other bucks over a mineral site.

I knew I wanted to get a stand in the area of my cam, but after looking around today, I ended up putting it up not only in the area, but in the tree right next to it. It just seemed to be the best tree in the area in a spot where three different trails converge before going out into a field.

I got my stand up, and lanes trimmed before dealing with the cam. I decided to pull it all together so I had no reason to go back into the area again before season. I didn't find out until I got home that there were over 800 pics on the card.

This first guy I am calling "squatch"

He has been around for at least three years. I get him on cam occasionally, but he just vanishes during season, only to show up again the following summer. He isn't the biggest dog on the block, but given the opportunity, I'd arrow him just because of his elusive nature and the history I have with him.

Next up is the world famous "Mr. T" and his buddy "Jr."

Mr.T is coming along nicely. By far he is the wallhanger of the property and I would consider him my primary target for the year. His buddy Jr. is to the right. They are together all the time... for now.
These 2 show up at this spot at all times of the day. I haven't been able to get a solid idea of wether this is a morning or evening spot to intercept them, because they are there at either time depending on the day. As you can see, this pic was taken yesterday, at 12:46. the youngster to the left I have been calling "scout". He is in this area constantly, every day, morning, noon and night. No doubt in my mind I will encounter him while on stand this year.

Next up are the three stooges

Yep, that is a spike, a small seven, and a doe. They run together and show up for the cam at least every other day, always together.

This last pic is a shot of 5 bucks in the spot at the same time.

I'm pretty sure that is Mr. T on the left center, with Jr. behind him The buck to the right is another one that shows up occasionally, but I have yet to name him.

Last but not least are the up and comers.

pretty motley looking bunch. I think that is scout to the left. Should be fun watching these guys grow up.

The alarming thing is that i still have yet to see a fawn, other than the one I found dead on the side of the road about a half mile from here. There also still seems to be a shortage of does. I get pics of them, but they are always alone, so I have no idea how many there are.

I am excited to say the least about this spot. i am gonna have to be careful though. I think for the time being this is going to have to be an evening spot. There are only 2 ways to access it and neither sound much good. I can either go in from the field, which is fine for the evening, but is most likely where the will be before sunrise. or i can go in through the woods that do go all the way back to the road. problem with that is it is about a half mile through swamp, and black oak. you are either going to be splashing or snapping ground clutter all the way in. I'm sure I will figure something out before go time.

Heck yeah Dave. Darn good card pull! Mr T is a stud in my book! I hope to see you holding one of them with your tag attached this year.

Dandy card pull, Dave! Mr.T looks great, and Squatch does TOO.

I would love to see him from stand thats for sure, He was a nice wide ten 3 years ago, so I figure He is at least 5 years old. But like his namesake (bigfoot) he turns into a ghost come season. Even finding his sheds would be awesome.

Wouldnt sweat not seeing too many fawns. That bachelor group is dominating the area. Great pics

I am starting to second guess my decision to remove the cam all together. i might just pop back out there after work tomorrow and put it back up in a different spot. the does seem to like to bed in a thicket about 300 yards south of where these shots were taken, on the other side of a swamp. I would like to go back out with some corn and set the cam up around there to see how many girls and younguns are around without disturbing the area around my new set.
