Had a busy day today. Went to the east property to hang a set and pull a cam. The cam has been on a month long soak in a spot I have been getting pics of Mr. T as well as a few other bucks over a mineral site.
I knew I wanted to get a stand in the area of my cam, but after looking around today, I ended up putting it up not only in the area, but in the tree right next to it. It just seemed to be the best tree in the area in a spot where three different trails converge before going out into a field.
I got my stand up, and lanes trimmed before dealing with the cam. I decided to pull it all together so I had no reason to go back into the area again before season. I didn't find out until I got home that there were over 800 pics on the card.
This first guy I am calling "squatch"
He has been around for at least three years. I get him on cam occasionally, but he just vanishes during season, only to show up again the following summer. He isn't the biggest dog on the block, but given the opportunity, I'd arrow him just because of his elusive nature and the history I have with him.
Next up is the world famous "Mr. T" and his buddy "Jr."
Mr.T is coming along nicely. By far he is the wallhanger of the property and I would consider him my primary target for the year. His buddy Jr. is to the right. They are together all the time... for now.
These 2 show up at this spot at all times of the day. I haven't been able to get a solid idea of wether this is a morning or evening spot to intercept them, because they are there at either time depending on the day. As you can see, this pic was taken yesterday, at 12:46. the youngster to the left I have been calling "scout". He is in this area constantly, every day, morning, noon and night. No doubt in my mind I will encounter him while on stand this year.
Next up are the three stooges
Yep, that is a spike, a small seven, and a doe. They run together and show up for the cam at least every other day, always together.
This last pic is a shot of 5 bucks in the spot at the same time.
I'm pretty sure that is Mr. T on the left center, with Jr. behind him The buck to the right is another one that shows up occasionally, but I have yet to name him.
Last but not least are the up and comers.
pretty motley looking bunch. I think that is scout to the left. Should be fun watching these guys grow up.
The alarming thing is that i still have yet to see a fawn, other than the one I found dead on the side of the road about a half mile from here. There also still seems to be a shortage of does. I get pics of them, but they are always alone, so I have no idea how many there are.
I am excited to say the least about this spot. i am gonna have to be careful though. I think for the time being this is going to have to be an evening spot. There are only 2 ways to access it and neither sound much good. I can either go in from the field, which is fine for the evening, but is most likely where the will be before sunrise. or i can go in through the woods that do go all the way back to the road. problem with that is it is about a half mile through swamp, and black oak. you are either going to be splashing or snapping ground clutter all the way in. I'm sure I will figure something out before go time.
