You don't hear about it because people are to busy working cleaning it up. Unlike the hurricane that hit New Orleans where all it was bitching and complaining and blaming Bush. First wife was from Farnhamville Iowa. Great friendly people out that way!

Walked the dog today in our downtown area (Marion Iowa). The pano is our ‘green square’ area where the city hosts bands, events, etc. it is an old train depot and is flattened. Once again, these are not pics of limited damage. It is like this for THOUSANDS of square miles. There are people in dire need out here. So much for National coverage.... We have friends that completely lost their houses.

Couple videos I took. The first shows how fast it approached. Very little warning as it formed and moved quickly. Storm sirens had sounded so I turned on the news and saw what was coming.
The second is from the basement window. After the tree blew over it got even worse so the girls and I headed into the storage room and waited it out.

That’s a good video. Amazing how powerful Mother Nature can be. A week after the derecho of 2012 came through we had an isolated storm come through at the house. My daughter and I were sitting out front on the swing watching it blow in. Suddenly, she said “what’s that sound”. I yelled to get in the house. 15 feet and we barely made it. The wind at the house at that moment was stronger than the derecho a week earlier.
Glad you folks are doing good.

😔 Now I wish I’d taken that call. Brothers wedding, barn project, pond, hunting meeting, party at my house all seem so small in prospective.

My buddy and I spent a couple hours at the farm this morning. The derecho didn’t hit it directly and we only had 2 shooting towers go down. One hit a tree on the way down which broke its fall. It does have a limb through it but was salvageable, so we stood it back up. The other not so much. We took the legs off of it and will scavenge it for spare parts to fix the other.

My favorite tree on the farm also fell victim. It is a huge double-trunked hickory that Shea shot 2 squirrels out of last fall. I guess it will make great firewood...... I may keep some logs from it and see if I can get them milled or something. There are also a couple massive oaks down that are probably close to 20 feet before the first limbs. Might see if I can sell those to a mill.

I was watching the DNC as each state announce the votes it was casting. When they got to Iowa the couple they mentioned the storm damage and asked for thoughts. They couldn’t even ask for prayers with all that Iowa has suffered😔😡

Lots of these disaster recovery services trucks have been all over town since the storm on 8/10 and today one came down my street. There are several staging ares around town where they are piling the trees. Unbelievably large piles when you see one! Last I heard they had only done the first pass on 30 something percent of the streets in Cedar Rapids/Marion.
