Diesel truck info.

I'll tell you why I switched to Toyota and don't plan to buy a GM product again. And it has nothing to do with manufacturing and assembly.....
I bought 4 new Chevy trucks from 1995 through 2004. The first two were 1500 extended cabs, the third was a 1500HD crew cab, and the last was a 2500HD crew. The problem is they ALL had the same quality issue with their steering columns. After a while they developed a slight shimmy/clunky feeling when you hits small bumps, especially when you were turning. Maybe some of you know what I am talking about??? There were service bulletins published for all of them and the corrective action was some sort of 'lube kit' for the intermediate steering shaft. Problem is they would charge you for this SB after the warranty was expired, and it would happen repeatedly on the same truck (meaning the SB was just a temporary corrective action and the issue would come back).
What blows my mind is this was a KNOWN quality issue for at least 10 years and the management at GM did nothing to correct it. Probably would have cost a little bit to redesign the intermediate shaft and would have impacted some executive's incentive pay. I wonder if it is even fixed now?
I am all for 'buying American', but I place buying a quality product above that. Seems the quality control mindset of the domestic companies lags the 'imports'.
My Tundra is right at 7 yrs old, 60K miles, and has not had a single issue. Knock on wood.

Ive been driving a diesel toyota hilux 4x4 over here. That little truck is cool. I also like the toyota land cruiser hzj pickup we have. Id buy a diesel truck if they offered them in a compact or 1/4 ton sized truck in the usa.

Same with my tacoma

Sounds like you're making excuses for domestic car makers and pointing out flaws on imports there Adam... Your prejudice is rearing its ugly head buddy...

GM has had numerous common issues with their truck line and haven't stepped up to remedy their issues...
Brake lines rusting out, fuel lines rusting out, 4x4 hubs not lasting a 100k and the list goes on... Look up morning sickness and GM motors...
Won't even start on ford or ram trucks as they have multiple issues as well that they don't stand behind... I've had ford and Chevy and refuse to own a ram/dodge since they are embarrassed to put the dodge badge on them anymore....
But it is what it is, your a Chevy guy (for now) and I'm on the import kick until they let me down then I'll buy a bicycle and sell all of my toys.... Or just buy a great set of walking shoes lmao...

Nope, ignition and fires were on the domestics. No prejudice, this thread has turned into a GM bashing thread instead of a help Joe pick between a Ford or Dodge diesel thread. I am not a GM guy, I am a GM diesel guy. If I was a GM guy, there wouldn't be a Chrysler mini van in the drive lol. I stated earlier I would buy a Ford but would love to see a Hybrid truck with a Cummins as the power plant and a mix of other OEMs to finish it out. I promise you that I am laughing on my end (thought I wrote that) whenever Insee people jump to final root cause without due diligence of investigating (it's just the engineer and quality in me and I have fought tooth and nail to protect manufacturers though the years to prove the installation was incorrect, to prove their was abuse, to identify and verify it was a supplier is not ssue not a design issue, etc.).

The GM steering clunk and injector issues in the LB7's were real issues, no denying that. Just saying they all have issues is all:smiley_bril: Carry on.

Our 2004 Envoy has been good to us. We just replaced it due to expected repairs on a 13yr old 162k mile vehicle. They come with age. My 2005 GMC, 2000 Blazer, and 2003 2500HD were disappointing. It wasn't the drive train. It was the components. Wheel bearings, electrical issues such as blower motors and such. BUT we are talking 2000-2005 vehicles we no longer own. Maybe they have sorted these things out. I will say I like the looks of the new Chevy trucks. That is all I have for them.

Because they're so easy to bash... And it just gets easier and easier.

Just go trade that SOB in and put it behind you. Don't be like me.

I am, but with a working AC. I'm not going give salesman fucktard an excuse to try and haggle a grand off trade for a 40 dollar repair. If I was less honest I'd throw a can of 134a in it and trade it in.

Yeah it only has to hold about 320 PSI and sustain large temperature fluctuations. But I did see where they cut a boat in half and taped it back together and it still floated. You should apply for a job GM. Lmao.

Lol, figure u would get a kick out of that!

Just saw the infomercial over the weekend. Pretty impressive to have tape work 100% submerged.

I will throw my not worth a penny 2 cents in..... Since I have been married, my wife and I have only owned Toyota's, Her 05 Camry(which we just sold and I wanted to keep for daily driver), her 09 Sienna that we sold to buy my 14 Tundra Crewmax, and now her 14 Sienna. In all of those, only oil changes and minor cheap fixes that I could usually take care of. Her Camry had over 200,000 and it ran in like a champ! I have a hard time thinking of buying anything other than Toyota. I wish they gave me a reason to look at a diesel but I can't argue with maintenance free and reliability.
