Dragonfly Repellent

I seen these things on one of those FB Reels. A short commercial for a clip-on dragonfly that allegedly keeps bugs away. The fishing videos didn't impress me, because I've never ran into an insect problem, while fishing on my kayak. Bugs don't get more than 15 or 20 feet off-shore or they're fish bait. :sneaky:

After looking up a few videos elsewhere (I have trust issues with FB videos), I found several bow hunters that were using them with good success. A 3-pack of these things are about $10 or $12, so I order a 3-pack. The theory behind the dragonflies is that they are predator bugs and other bugs are afraid of them and leave the area. Lately the deer flies and skeeters have been a royal pain, when I'm practicing in the backyard. The deer flies are annoyingly persistent and make it difficult to concentrate during any bow practice. So, I thought this would be a good testing ground.

I'm impressed!!! I never had 1 deer fly touch me, no skeeters or any other kind of flying bugs. (y) I was only using the red one. The other photo is just showing the other colors available. The slightest breeze makes the wings look like they're flying.

Well, here ya go.... I was at a 3D shoot yesterday and had 1 of the clip-on dragonflies on the back of my hat. It kept the mosquitoes off of my back and the back of my head. Any other locations that were more than 16" away from the dragonfly, was fair game for the mosquitoes. It was hot, so I was wearing shorts and had my legs sprayed with Repel bug spray and never had a problem on my legs. I should've sprayed my arms and chest and I would've been in good shape....but that wouldn't have told me if the dragonfly was working or not.

I made the sacrifice in areas without bug spray and got ate up. At least now I know....and now, so do the rest of you. ;)

Perhaps if I would've had more of the dragonflies hanging around there wouldn't have been a problem. However, it's not practical to look like a Christmas tree full of ornaments, just for bug control. The dragonflies work great in my backyard, but for hunting purposes my Thermacell will be activated in full force this fall. A couple of squirts of Repel works great too!
