Hearing reports that EHD is hitting in Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. Hopefully it stays away from here this year.

We have had a crap ton of rain this year even well into the summer. I can't believe the conditions would be ripe for this to be a problem in Ohio this year.
We also had a crap ton of rain in 2017 when it broke out in Western PA/Eastern Ohio. The "experts" said then that all the rain caused water to be in mudholes where it normally isn't. I honestly don't know if the amount of rain has a lot to do with it.

Actually this year's weather was perfect for EHD... ALOT of rain caused flooded areas that eventually dried up.. That's when those midges hatch out of the mud... Then they bite the deer...
Yeah, seems like lots of rain followed by dry spell is recipe for disaster.

When it happens I am sure the ODNR will act swiftly and be completely transparent to provide up to date information to the owners of the natural resource we trust them to manage.

I was of the understanding it was during hot dry times where the water becomes stagnant in places. I remember reading something that said frequent rainfalls were good because it adds fresh water to the situation, especially in creek beds and even ponds.
