Head on over to Archery Talk on the Crossbow Forum, lots of info there. Also their go to guy for crossbows is David at http://www.wyverncreations.com/ . Give him a call or and email and tell him about your needs and wants and he will help you out. Let us know what you come up with. Good Luck in the woods this year.

Finally got a chance to cock an Excalibur with the C2 cocking device yesterday. Or maybe I should say try to cock an Excalibur. This just ain't going to work for me, which is a kick in the butt.

I looked at a Parker Ambusher which I somewhat liked. And their Sidewinder crank is ambidextrous, a big plus. But, the Ambusher is a new model for 2016 so I'm a little nervous about that. As of today I'm sitting on the fence.

If I remember right Ric, you have experience with Parker crossbows. Any input?

I am not familiar with the new model. However: I would back any Parker product on the market today. Their customer service is right up there with Tenpoints. I believe it has changed a little: You now need to be the original owner for full coverage. They cover everything but the cables, strings and pulleys.

I just done a little research and their warranty is still solid. Just register your bow within 15 days. Their actual warranty is available on line. (I just googled it). That Ambusher is a replica of Braydons bow with a little more umph to it. I would go out on a limb and say you would love this bow. It shoots 35+ fps faster than your Hortons and checks in at a mere 6.5#

Thanks. I have read of the Challenger having big issues with splintering limbs. They now have the new Challenger II, but the limbs look to be the same. These are both have a wide single limb. The Ambusher has the split limb design which I like better. I liked the light weight of the Ambusher. But, I'm thinking it is just another compound crossbow that isn't that much better than what I use now. I'll probably use my Hortons until I have to replace them out of necessity.

Braydon has the challenger and no issues as of yet. If it does, I will guarantee Parker will back it 100%. If something happens to any of your Hortons Dick, don't trash them. I recently sold a broken one for parts. Scope mounts, limbs and stocks are worth good money! So is Horton Quivers.

I'm sure the parts are getting harder to come by. My main concern with my three Hortons are the cables. All three show wear on the coating of the cables. My oldest one even has the metal of the cable showing where the coating is gone. I can find parts, but getting someone to repair Horton crossbows around here is impossible. My dad had a string replaced last year, but that was the only work that shop would do on his Horton.

I believe some of the custom string places will make your string and cables. They just won't be cable anymore. You may want to check that option.

Another note about Excalibur - my son in law had a problem, one of the limbs broke when he shot to unload it on opening day. He called Cabelas and they had parts in stock - (they said Excalibur has them keep them for just such occasions) he took it there, they replaced the limbs while he waited and he was back in the field that evening.

That is another reason I went with Wyvern Creations! He has a wide variety of different types of crossbows and as was stated, great customer service!

This is good stuff. What is crazy is how small the likelihood of needing a spare limb is. I know a guy who dry fired his (twice I believe) and never had an issue. They are nice crossbows. This durability is a major reason I bought one for my son.

Twice in the same afternoon, about 60 seconds from first to second dry firing! HA! Still shoots perfectly!
