FLORIDA HOG HUNT 2026

Well, we ended with 3 killed, 2 wounded, 1 missed, and many seen. It was a difficult year due to the lack of water in the sloughs. This means the pigs have way more dry ground to live on and are far more dispersed. You can see from my OnX track how we usually do it. Follow the edge of the slough in the wet and watch for pigs up ahead on the edges of what we call islands, which are really just dry ground in a slough. The dry stuff (green) is usually too thick with palms, privet, and palmedows to walk through. Most years that's where the pigs live because it's dry and thick and then they come down to the slough edge to feed and travel. This year however they could go or be anywhere. Sloughs that would have been knee deep in years past were dry with grass growing in them.

With that said it was still a blast. There's nothing better than slipping through the jungle with all your senses on level 10. Eyes peeled for any movement, ears perked for the smallest of sounds, wind in your face rifle at the ready. Slipping forward with the stealth of a cat. Sometimes, getting so thick, you sling your rifle and transition to a pistol. Hunting like hunting should be, and has been for thousands of years, how our ancestors did it.

Throw in a good group of guys at camp and you have the makings for a fantastic week.

You can see on the trees how much water is missing.
