Flying Squirrels

There is a guy who is well known in Ohio for his research on flying squirrels and he has boxes on our property. Once a year he comes out and does a count. He weighs, pictures, bands and takes a fecal sample on each one. We had 18 in a total of 25 boxes. I learned a hell of a lot today. Wrapped up the day with a screech owl.

I’d bet that 90+% of every tree out there that has wood pecker holes or hollowed out knot holes in them has a family of them living there. I fell a dead ash 4-5 years ago and it had a family with 4-6 newly born ones inside. They relocated them with us right there watching them before I chunked up the trunk. I got it all on video on my phone.
