Man, what a great encounter Phil, it's a shame it didn't go the other way! Crazy the gun didn't go off, but on the other hand, you called in your first tom, and from the sound of things, a good one!

That was a good read man! Shame you didn't come outta there with him though. With the county you hunt and the low numbers you all have he woulda been a trophy for sure!

Thanks Archer, Flutey, and Twireman. Population seems to be growing a bit more each year and spreading onto more properties each year. It will happen someday. Tagged tom or not, it was a great experience. And yes twireman, he would have been a pretty good one. Maybe he still can be. I have a little time in the season left. Just need the time (and luck) to make it happen.

Free Bird lives. Happened to wake up around 430am with no alarm. Figured it was meant to be. Long story short: Over 100 gobbles from the roost. Had 5 turkeys out there total. Only thing which was close was a hen at 30yds and a pregnant doe at 15'.

Had to watch the turkeys come down from roost, walk down the field edge away from me, then take a diagonal across the field back in front of me. Why couldn't they just fly down and slide down the field edge past me like they were supposed to? Oh well. That is hunting. Still better than starting my day off working. Man am I going to be tired by tonight!

No dekes this morning. I believe there were two jakes roosted together about 30-40yds from me. The tom came down roughly100yds north of me. When I heard him fly down he was already on some hens. Not sure or they were roosted with him or elsewhere and he flew down when he saw them.

Got light early this morning. Slid in later than I should have. 2 dukes out. Both hens. Heard free bird gobble once. Had a couple fly down. No visual confirmations yet. Heard second gobble further away. Waiting patiently
Watched a red fox hunt for entertainment. Life is good.

It was great hearing that you were able to at least get out Phil. Dang, it was very hot and muggy this evening. I was soaked from head to toe when I got home at 9pm.
