I've talked with him a few times and own both of his books. I'm going to miss seeing him at the Traditional Bowhunters Expo, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, towards the end of this month 27th-29th.

I’ve got three of his books as well. I found him entering and knowledgeable. However, trying to follow his advice sent me down a years-long hole of shooting misery. For my generation, he was a great roll model for single string shooters.

I always went my own direction, when it comes to shooting styles. Everyone has to find what works for them, on an individual basis and stay with it.
Nothing wrong with trying other methods, as long as it's an improvement. 
Asbell always spoke well of his friend in southern Indiana. I wonder if he's still around.

Bob Pitt? He was the last I heard but had quit hunting and spent his time fishing. I never met Fred personally. But wish I had as I believe he was a quality individual. MR James thought the world of him and I believe MR to be a solid judge of character.

Always enjoys reading his articles in Bowhunters magazine as a kid ,brings back a lot of childhood memories

I think my favorite story he ever told was the story of his old “rig”. He called it Old Green. He said when he sold it he felt like he’d never be forgiven for letting it go. It was a Bronco, I think.

Loved reading the stories of his hunting adventures he used to write. I believe he was hunting editor for Bowhunter magazine in the late eightes early ninety's. His wife makes some of the best hunting garments I've ever used! Asbell wool. I hope she continues!
