When you do get one, remember you have it. I drug one further than I should while the cart was down in the garage.....rotflmao
Bought it in the summer and forgot about it!

It'll go in the truck bed for the season lol...

Thanks Milo, I'll keep that in mind...

Talked to my brother and he said I could have his, he hasn't ever used it... I used it the first or second year he had it down at salt fork during a gun season, was down there with some older friends and they used it and loved it...
Thanks for all the replies folks...

one of those plastic sleds that you use for pulling kids around or for ice fishing works really well also. And fairly inexpensive.

Yes, these are awesome for dragging deer out when there's snow on the ground. Dicks and MC Sports carry the Jet Sleds fairly regularly in their stores.

The cart I have I believe is from Ameristep. I bought it years ago because I hunted some state land near the house and it was a hike to get back in there. I would load up my climber on it and at first tried strapping my bow to it as well but found it was a bit top heavy with just that weight on it and it would tip over easy once I got off trail and would go over a small log or two. Never did use it there for a deer but we used it one year to get a big doe out from the edge of a muddy winter wheat field. Man what a chore that was trying to do it by myself til help arrived. Part of my problem was I didn't strap the deer onto it and as I hit bumps the deer would shift and sometimes tip over. I would still use it though for the state land hunts. The Jet Sleds and similar heavy duty sleds that are out there are much better in my opinion for getting a deer out especially with a little help. Slips up and over most logs and goes pretty easy on a leafy surface. Just isn't something you can take in and out quietly unless you carry it if that is how you intend to hunt and have it ready.

Good friends that owe you a favor! 😎😂

They’ll be getting a call no matter what. I wouldn’t want to drag one up out of some of these hollers by myself. Cart or no cart 😂

I still like the idea of a sled. Don’t have to worry about wheels falling off and takes up less space. Simplicity at its best.

Do you have any experience with one? I’m worried about pulling it up ridge and the friction between sled bottom and the ground.

Deer cart + Jet sled. Both are incredibly useful and can be used in tandem if sized correctly. A plastic jet sled is a must-have for anyone who hunts, fishes, or traps. The uses are endless. One of the best uses is for loading deer into the back of a truck... Place deer in sled, lift front edge of sled up to edge of tailgate, then lift back of sled and push it into the truck. One guy can load any deer, all by himself. And best of all, no blood in the truck. The sled catches it all.

Since the sled is plastic, friction is not your friend. The sled works best with snow, ice, or wet ground. Dry ground can be a real bitch to pull across. Not to mention it will eventually wear holes into the bottom of the sled. They do however sell hyfax runner kits that can be installed on the bottom to help it last longer. For dry ground, use a deer cart or a wagon. The only exception IMO would be when your drag is downhill... In that scenario the sled will pull downhill fairly easily. And a layer of dead fallen leaves helps the drag as well.

I have and need to get an actual jet sled. I have an old surplus sled I use now.

Easy downhill drag

I’d also carry a strap to tie on the handle and let the sled go first when going downhill when it is steep. Otherwise, the cart will push you down the hill. A small block and tackle with a long rope is also good for getting a deer out from the bottom of a steep ravine if you are by yourself. Also, x2 on the statement about getting wheels without spokes....they will not last long and will grab every small branch you pass by.

Some good advice, thank you guys. I’m mainly worried about the uphill drags. Anything down hill may be a calculated push and see what happens.

What’s brands do you recommend on the carts? It will probably have to be something that is foldable so it doesn’t take up too much space in apartment.

Trad guy with a wheeled cart...what’s the world coming to?! Rough it and make the deer a backpack😂.

For some of the areas you plan to get into, a meat pack wouldn’t be a far fetched idea. Not sure why we drag anymore in this state. We can cut the animal up now once we get a conformation number.

That isn’t a bad idea. I’d have to save a video to follow along too.

Who am I kidding, I won’t kill anything. 😂
