That was the hope. Last year there was snow but it was dark so they struggled a little but suffered through the cold to watch/help field dress and drag home.
Today was the perfect opportunity to let em do it on their own. It was a frontal shot between the shoulders at 60yrds. She was with another mature doe which bounded away. By the time the smoke cleared from the CVA optima, I could see her mosey with tail down behind some down trees. The other doe kept circling then jumped when her friend gave up the ghost. I couldnt see her drop and they were headed to the property line to the north. I gave it 10mins and let the other doe finally trot off after realizing her friend was not joining. Confirmed she was on property i have permission for and tagged her.
Texted my wife and asked her to get boys dressed. Only once did my oldest get off the blood trail but younger brother was still on it so i asked both if they still had blood. Oldest immediately walked back to where his brother was, proceeded to push him out of the way and 2mins later they found her. I still cant believe how fast the oldest spotted the beginning of the trail immediately dismounting the quad. Wish I could see red so easily lol. Happy dad today and 2 tired boys. :smiley_cheers:
