Got a Skag...

Well I finally got sick of messing with the old lawn mower. It has been a pain-in-the-ass for 3 seasons and I've had it. Over the last 50 or so years we have tried almost every lawn/garden tractor made. The realestate around the houses is irregular slopes and riddled with roots, sticks and stumps. Since it is used to mow 3 homes each time a lawn needs cut... well that's a lot of use.

We have never had a O turn but they look like they could do the job and maybe even be a little fun...
So I bought a Skag. bottom of the commercial line. This thing is solid and built like a tank. Welded deck instead of a stamped out sheet. The Skag Liberty Z has a 52" deck and a 24 hp kohler motor. The tires are large enough to give a decent ride over our rough yards. Heave duty hydraulic drive system seemed to do well...

So well I mowed 6 1/2 hours with it the first day I got it and sun burned my knees something fierce. So far, So good.

My buddy for NC came up for my retirement and he's a skag dealer down there, he said they are a great mower and proud too sell them.... He sells a lot of them down there....

I like that high back seat - might be a little sweatier but certainly more comfortable!

Your right Huck. The next unit up had a lower, thinner seat. (for some reason) One lap around the yard at the dealers had me turned off but this one is very comfortable. I even haggled about them swapping out the seat but in the end, I saved the $400 and bought this model. It is a heavy SOB at 640 lbs. I could just lift the old Husqvarna lawn/garden out of the ditch by the road if I slipped in... I discovered that was not a option... the hard way. Thankfully I had the 4 wheeler to pop it out. lol

I have always enjoyed mowing the big fields with the large equipment and a 90" woods because I do some of my best thinking out there but the yard was not enjoyable. Now (for the time being,) its fun.

Nice mower! I'm sure it's got dual cupholders for beers. If not, shame on you! Lol. Once you mow with a zero turn you can't go back. They're slicker than cum on a gold tooth.

I mow right around 5 acres here at my house with a 48" JD lawn tractor and mow 30 acres over at the farmers house with 72" zero turn. I sometimes bring it home to do my yard, man does it make quick work out of the job. They ride a bit rough for my back though. I still think I'll buy one when I have the need.

We mow a couple miles of ditch with them, I know what you mean about getting stuck. It sucks! We ended up welding chain loops on the front and we mow in teams just so we can pull each other out.

Those are new for 2015 models and he's said there perfect for the home owner that's got a few acres too cut.....

Nice cutter. Once you go black you never go back the typical rider. I have an Exmark 60", reduced my mowing by 50% over a typical 48" rider mower.
The only bad part is no beer drinking with both steering handles utilized.

You just aren't a pro at it. Alex can mow with one hand on his z mowers while scouting the neighbor's daughters through his binoculars.

Nice mower Jim. Not really a Skag fan for how we use them. Overall, they are tanks. Dane Skag engineered a large portion of the z mowers you see on the market. For residential use, I don't see you needing to buy another mower in your life.

Ya. I have yet to master the 1 hand drive skills. I panicked a couple of times on the sticks my first day and a couple of times found myself realizing I was slowing down and pushing on the floor board plate where my old gas pedal was... lol

I thought they may be tired but after the 6.5 hrs and the next day; no soreness at all. I'm just not sure if I like my hands on the top or on the side... Time will tell.
