Looking for solid, inarguable points to present to my wife to convince her to mix up the vacation thing and stop doing the beach every year. We have a savings account for vacation funds and for what we are contributing to it on a monthly basis, I could be making payments on a pretty nice camper. While I like the beach, I feel like we are missing some great experiences not only one week a year, but throughout the year. I have a pretty good list in my mind, but I always like tapping into the smart minds of TOO whenever I can! I'll take any good qualitative or quantitative argument you can make!

My wife had a thing about spending a couple days at the breakers in cedar point because she had warm memories from her childhood...
Year after fucken year...
Today looking back when it’s brought up with the kids , now “adults”, they both agree it would have been nice to do something else some years.
No winning argument here. Just a little regret looking back.

Amazingly enough there are some pretty good private and state camping near beaches plus it opens up a ton of other opportunities having a camper. Figure in cost of campgrounds vs the cost of a condo or hotel it can save you some cash as well. All of the Army Corp of engineering camp grounds have water as well and they have those all across the country. Might not be an ocean but a lot of lakes have nice sand beaches.

This is why I love owning a camper. Not limited and when we do vacation to Alaska, I’m more ok with it knowing that we do mini vacations all the time. So I guess what I’m saying, is buy a camper to do more of the things you like as a family. You don’t need a $40,000 camper to have fun. We had just as much fun in a $2,500 old junker.

Start with a small change first. Just pick a new vacation spot this year that's not the beach. Show her theres other nice places to go as well. She's most likely seeing the camper purchase as selfish in your part and thinking it won't be enjoyable. Cabin by the lake would be a great change that's similar. Then tell her hey we could do this all the time for a lot cheaper without having to rent a cabin weekly.

Do a road trip to the wonderful state of New Jersey in May... No I'm not joking... Mid May is prime time on the Jersey coast for spring Striper fishing... Booking a charter out of Belmar N.J. you'll have the chance of catching stripers ranging from 30 to 50 lbs.... Truly a world class fishery when they are coming up the coast from Southern waters... Fish are chasing schools of bunker and sometimes whales are also in the mix, all this happening just off the beaches... Just a short drive from Belmar up to Sandy Hook you can catch a ferry across the Raritan Bay into New York City where you can spend the day sight seeing or whatever... Close out that day with a dinner cruise on World Yacht... Here you will cruise around New York City and have dinner while taking in breathtaking views of the New York City skyline at night... The cruise will also stop near the Statue of Liberty for a fireworks display... You will love the fishing and get bonus points with the wife for the New York City excursion.... Here area few links to check out....

Or...…….... Bring the wife on a 3 day bear hunt in Oct.... Pending if we have a season.... I'll check with Fletch's bear hunting service if there are any openings...

Not sure I can help you win an argument. We have hit the beach a couple times with the kids. Our "go to" is the mountains. Most generally the Smokies. I guess the talking point I "might" try is simple: Let's give the kids a taste of several landscapes our country offers. Let's diversify their pallet and expose them to multiple pieces of scenery. We DON'T know where our kids will end up. Let's expose them to as many different adventures as we can so they know how much our country offers.

I like the beach. Lol.

But it's probably because we rarely go. And I'm usually so damn busy. I just really enjoy relaxing on a beach, hearing the ocean, and sipping on a cocktail.

Having said that, I plan on owning a camper not long after we (hopefully) find another house. I think there's a lot more to see in the country than going to a beach, and a camper makes it way more affordable to do so...plus it obviously adds more adventure to a trip. I think you should save your Beach vacation money up for a camper...then travel around for your vacations. I don't know how you should "argue" that approach. I think your wife will either get it or she won't.

She and I did Gatlinburg right before we had K and had fun. We should do that again with the kids this time. Lake Erie like Chad suggested is also high on my list, as would somewhere in the NE. Fishing is a tough sell for her due to motion sickness, but I bet K would have a blast.

Some of our most 'memorable' husband/wife arguments have been camping LOL! Whether it was when we were camping in a tent with a 2 year old and around 3 am a torrential thunderstorm came through or the simple part of parking the camper and setting up camp I'm not sure which ranked higher. The camper is the way to go but don't be surprised when it ends up costing much more overall than renting a cabin or hotel. That alone may limit the 'sites' you get to see and the distance you drive to get there.

My father was a school teacher, my mother a home maker.

Needless to say, we didn't have much money when I was growing up.

With both parents having summers off we did spend quite a bit of time at various campgrounds between Lake Erie, Cooks Forest, Canada, NY, the Outter Banks, etc. via the old station wagon and/or truck and a pop up camper.

I have many fond memories of just simplistic times.

With a camper you can still do the Beach. Take the camper and head to Myrtle Beach they have some awesome campgrounds. We stayed at Pirates cove.

Then when you aren't at the beach you still have weekend outings at great state parks or KOA campgrounds. The kids will thank you. A lot of private campgrounds have great kids areas whether it's a pool or fishing ponds or playgrounds.
