Here's an interesting point of view to consider...

What they don't tell you at a dealership:
* Since the vehicle is electric, you're not using gasoline, so you're not paying for road taxes. The .9 of the $289.9 goes for road tax to pay for the roads. The State is going to get their money, so when you buy your license plates, instead of it being $40 or $50, it's $400 to $600, depending on the year of the car.
* The electric car weighs more. A standard Cadillac weighs approximately 4200 lbs., but the same vehicle in electric weighs 6500 lbs. This causes the price of the tires to be more for weight bearing. Plus the wear and tear on the roads for a heavier vehicle.
* We don't have the infrastructure to support everyone having an electric car. The west coast is already experiencing this with "black outs" due to their electric grid being overrun with A/C usage, house lights, lawnmowers, cars, traffic lights, street lights, etc.
* Battery replacement is a huge issue. You purchase a $25K vehicle, in 6 or 7 years the batteries need to be replaced. The vehicle is now worth $16K and battery replacement is $12K to $14K. Europe has already experienced this and have gone back to diesel engine vehicles.
* Charging stations are few and far between once you get away from the west coast and/or the bigger cities. To complicate the lack of charging stations, most of the charging stations are in disrepair. A 8 station facility only has a couple of stations that work. Finding qualified people to repair the stations has become an issue also.

My buddy and his wife both have Teslas and they plug into the wall at home. Last week they put one on autopilot and it drove them from CLE to Destin FL for a week long vacation. They both love their Teslas.

Here are my concerns in no particular order.

1) There are no transparent organizations (i trust) who have released the information on how good or bad they are for any aspect of the environment. From what's required to build, to maintaining to charging etc. I don't trust either side of the argument to give facts and not propaganda.

2) They are a premium item with no data on if the premium is an asshole/elitist tax or not.

3) A few years ago before a hurricane they sent an update over the air to Teslas and increased their range overnight to make it easier to leave the hurricane zone. What's to stop them from the reverse? or if my social media likability score isn't "right"?
