How old were you when you left the nest?

After 2 year community college, got married the day after I turned 21. We did live with my parents for a year when we built our first house.

To echo what was said, I have told my sons, you can live here as long as needed to save money to pay off college or save to buy a place of your own, but no way are you putting your feet under my table, eating my food, having your mother do your laundry, just because you are a sorry ass.

I worked with a guy who let his son live at home, no rent, no help with utilities or groceries.

The young man had a new truck, used car, 4 wheeler, and a bass boat. I told his dad your are out of your mind letting him live there for free and buy all that shit and you and your wife have to watch your money, oh hell no.

Also we put my wife through college, then I went back and got my 4 year, then a masters of divinity, all while working. For the 12 years of our marriage one of us was in school, also had 2 sons.

When I went back to school my dad got mad that I wouldn’t let him help pay for it. I was like dad that is not how you raised me.

Damn I miss the old fart.

I was 19 when I left home. Went to Montana for guide school and returned home for a couple months looking for a guide job. That didn't work so I moved out in November a month before my 20th birthday never to return. Moved in with my now wife who had 2 daughters from her previous marriage and started busting ass making family life. Still busting ass to this day.

I was in the last freshman class in division 1 football to have freshman camp and regular two a day. Officially moved out last week of July 2002 (18years old) and basically had my own place since (periodically living with parents or in laws for a short time when we moved back). Lived in 5 different states and have lived in double digit houses/apartments. Entering the work force during 08 -09 recession was the most frustrating time in my life and force me to do jobs I hope I never do again, really makes me appreciate my life today, taught me a lot about perseverance and struggle.

Left for college 18-19 years of age
Graduated early (3.5 years)
Started working in SE Ohio - had my own apt.
Got job opportunity in Texas - moved there at 22
Moved back to NE Ohio later on, lived with mom and dad for a few months before buying my own home. Still live in that house now with my wife.

I was always a "late bloomer" in life and by reading these posts, looks like I was late at leaving the nest too. :ROFLMAO:
Right out of high school I acquired a very good paying job at a Monsanto (plastics and resins division) factory. I furnished my parents' house with all kinds of electronics (surround sound before it was invented), my Dad with all kinds of guns and gun accessories and my Mom with new appliances. (y)

I moved out at age 23, into an apartment owned by a guy that I worked with and I lived upstairs, he and his wife were downstairs. I replaced the electronics that I took with me, at my parents' house, when I left. Purchased a dirt bike, for my Dad, so we could ride them back and forth to work. We were in separate wrecks with our bikes, so we sold them and replaced them with whitewater kayaks. A couple of years after moving out, I bought a tandem axle camper, so we could all go camping in the warmer months and hunting in the colder months.

Moved out officially at 21, but was out chasing tail most of the time so I was never there.I moved out into the house behind my parents and we rented that for a few years. Moved back into my wife's parents for about 3 months and bought our first house when I was 24.
