hunting land

Hey Everyone,

So I have a question, someone brought up to me that sense I live in a Township in Ohio there is no restriction on hunting on it. I have about 2 acres in my back yard. Does anyone know if that is true? If it is that would be great because I have a bunch of deer that run thru there.

It honestly depends on which township. Some have laws against hunting, but, township laws can't overrule Ohio Revised Code. It may still be more headache then it's worth or it could be a gold mine. Which township if you don't mind me asking?

2ac would be very tough to hunt.
If you shot a deer in the dead center of the property that deer needs to drop in less than 70 yards to stay on your property. Too many variables in play for me. Of course if you can get permission from neighboring property owners to track then it opens up the possibilities some.

I own 2.34 acres and regularly kill turkeys and deer on it. There is no minimum/maximum acreage requirement to hunt. You just need to be mindful of ORC and other local laws that might impact you. My neighbor's all let me recover animals, so I have no issues from a recovery standpoint.

Think about what happens when a deer with your arrow runs out into a street and causes some sort of collision between cars. "lawsuits" "attorneys" etc.
Last year someone arrowed a 6 point albino and it ran around a municipal forest for several days. Once it croaked, the county wild life officer decided there was no way to determine if it was shot legally outside the forest and just got away to the off limits to die.

Then I'd say they should of been paying attention to the deer crossing signs.

I hunt what is technically 100 acres, but it’s really all Field with about 2 acres of woods that butts up to 2 other owners. So, even though the land proper is big, what I hunt is similar situation. The advice given is spot on in that you have to get permission from neighbors. I get written permission that for years said “retrieve only unless shooting to finish a cripple”. This past year I finally got it to say “shoot onto property or retrieve only”...which allowed me to gun hunt and shoot onto neighbors. It’s a pain for sure, but it is what it is, too, which is access to a stand.

Thanks for all your replies I live in Springfield Township, I have roughly about 2 arces to hunt on and I actually have my neighbors permission to retrieve on there property.

I am hoping to get pulled for the Summit Park raffle but this is going to be plan B, and there is always the Public hunting
lands in Walborn Reservoir if all else fails, but I didn't have any luck there last year.

How far from Springfield lake are you? I’ve been by there a few times over the years....
Have some friends who’ve hunted Walbourn as well...

No 2 acres is the same. One guy can have 2 acres surrounded by ag fields and another can be backed right up against a subdivision. Use your best judgement, but if I was you, I’d talk to the farmer to your North. Hunt trails leading to that ag field. Entry and exit is key!

The summit metro parks hunt is a lot of fun, good luck. I’ve hunted in it the last 4 years.

I have almost 5 acres not far from you in Green. It’s a weird situation because the lot is only 50 yards wide but super deep. that being said, the neighbors on both sides are cool with me tracking if I happen to shoot one. All the other trespassers are a whole other issue though...
