First and foremost, thank you all for all the kind comments. Layla enjoys reading them as well. She is still on cloud 9 as am I. I did not get to bed until after 2 and ran on adrenaline all day. This year has not been as easy as the previous two. We went through a lot of skunked sits and minimal activity nights to get to this point. She is learning that it is all part of the experience. However, through it all she never lost interest and continued to want to go out and get after em. Last night I decided to change it up and took her to a different property to hunt out of a blind. We had 5 does feeding out in front of us and enjoyed the show they were giving us. Suddenly they all looked over their shoulders then went slowly on their way across the field. Another doe popped out and she began looking behind. At that point I got Layla ready and settled on the shooting stick because I knew there were likely horns coming. A few seconds later a really nice 8 point popped out and the doe scurried on out. He stopped broadside at 15 yards and looks directly at us in the blind. Neither of us moved, but at 15 yards and it not even starting to get dark yet, he saw us. He abruptly snorted and did a half circle that put him at 30 yards and he was ready to bolt. I told Layla "use the second circle". He then turned the other way to exit but for some reason stopped. That was the crucial mistake for him. Layla took her time, more than I would of liked, but eventually squeezed the shot off. I heard a loud crack and he hunkered over and took off for the woods. He stopped right at the edge and began the death wobble and disappeared in the woods. We hugged and high fived for several minutes and replayed over and over what just happened. I have never seen my little girl so happy. She shook all limbs for the next ten minutes and couldn't get the smile off her face. I even heard her teeth chattering she was so excited! It was an amazing experience for the both of us that I will never forget. Many of my best memories with my daughter are hunting in the field and there is nothing better when it works out for your kid. We went home and waited for a bit and my dad and buddy came for the recovery. We then had friends stop over for a "photo shoot". I emailed Layla's teacher the pictures and she displayed them on the Smart board for the whole class today. Pretty cool day for a second grader. I am already getting a little sad though, as is she that she is done buck hunting. She is already asking when she can go doe hunting lol. To close this out, I just want to thank everyone on here. I really enjoy reading others stories and sharing my own. I have learned so much from this site and continue to every year. Good luck to everyone the rest of the way!
