Been a rough 2 weeks. Weather was not the best the first week. Running 11 camera's and nothing much showing up even in the middle of the night. Got frustrating. Very few shooter sightings and vacation was running down.
Had a nasty brawl break out in front of me last night. Didn't get to see any deer but it was sure vicious! Snuck out after dark and went back in this morning. Had a 120 8 pt. @ 25 yds around 8 am but gave him a pass because of what I heard last night. Went back in this evening and was only there like 5 minutes and seen 2 bucks over my left shoulder. They were rubbing and scraping basicly just hangin' out. They started to leave so I sat down and got comfy. Heard a stick crack and here came a buck right at me. Had the scope on him and he ducked under a grapevine. When his head came back up, we were looking at each other @ 15 yds and he froze. I pulled the trigger and he came un-glued. Ran about 40 yds and fell down. Got back up and looked drunk for a minute and then took off down the fence. His buddy the 8 pt came back and went after him.....Then the 8 pt came back walking slowly and I thought maybe the other one was down. Waited about 30-40 minutes and got my arrow. Was gonna go to the house but just HAD to see about the blood trail.....It was the largest and widest blood trail I had ever seen! Found where he fell and there was a splattered puddle the size of a car hood. Looked down the fence and he only made it about another 50 yds. Once I seen a white belly, I had to go on down. Not quite the buck I thought he was at first but a descent buck indeed.
