Thanks for all the great comments. Jesse hit the nail on the head, two months ago I doubted I'd be hunting much at all due to a bad fall I took in my backyard. As luck would have I recovered just in time for hunting season.
This buck is one I've had a number of out of range encounters with. I first spotted him on Nov.2, 2015 while I was sitting in the same stand I killed him in. He was a 7 point on our first encounter and has remained that way every year since. I started referring to him as "Stuck On Seven" in the fall of 2016. I really never intended to kill him. When he slipped in to my creek bottom at 6:45 on Monday evening I mistook him as an 8 point that looks very similar to him. My buddy help me with the tracking after I told him I had shot an 8 point. He reached the deer before I did and informed me it was a 7 point. I said 4 on left and 3 on the right I bet. He confirmed and I knew Stuck On Seven was the deer I'd shot. This deer and I had a long history and I'm guessing he was 6 1/2 or 7 1/2 years old. He had a huge body and weighed a ton. It was all my buddy and I could do to get him in the truck. The rest of my season I'll be hunting with my camera. I'm sure a giant will walk right in front of me.
