Awesome buck Phil. I won't fault you for the three shots. Those sum bitches aren't dead for sure until you are holding there heart.
Dats rite! After the Oct 30 doe got up and walked away I wasn't chancing it.. shot turkey and he ran off in spring. Freaking zombie shit happens when I shoot. Lol

That is totally awesome Phil, but it don't surprise me at all! You get it done every season. Congrats buddy and I hope you get the opportunity to get your boy on a big one.

Great story Phil! My uncles down there used to always say keep shooting til they stay down LOL! Hell of a buck!! Congratulations!

Thanks Aaron. Great thing about Garrett: He just wants A Buck. ANY buck. A big part of me does NOT want him to get a big one. I started big but that was starting hunting in my 30's. At 12yrs old I don't think I want him to get ate up with antler size. This year and last I decided to shoot what trips my trigger. Who cares about the score? Only has to make me happy. Don't get me wrong. I still lust after "the monster" and want to shoot the biggest one possible. But when a deer like the one I shot today comes along and trips my trigger, I am NOT going to pass him because "he needs another year" or "he should be a solid 150" deer next year." This buck is freaking cool in my opinion. He isn't a scoring machine but I'm okay with that. I am trying to keep it fun rather than hunt for a single deer or two. I just want Garrett to shoot whatever tickles his fancy. Deer hunting has turned into something ugly. Makes the worst come out in some people. That isn't what it is supposed to be about in my opinion. I ended my hunt yesterday after 45min to help my buddy drag his out. Finished up. Drove around to see very few guys out around 11am. Got a call from the neighbor to help his boy track a deer with Hank. Only made it back out the last couple hours yesterday. And I had a BLAST! The fellowship of brothers and sisters in the field is pretty fun. I firmly believe I was rewarded today for helping those guys yesterday.

Here are some extras. I had some trail camera pics of him. They are a couple miles away from where I shot him. He was moving during the rut for sure. I believe I shot him closer to his home territory though because there is a shed I found in 2014 which I believe is his. I also believe this is the deer I passed last year. I was thinking he was 3.5yrs old but the shed from 2yrs ago does not look like a 1.5yr old deer shed. Probably just a stud of a 2yr old. That would put him at 4.5yrs old this year but I could be wrong. I will tell you he stunk to high heavens like a rutted up buck. His tarsal glands are terribly stained and he had crap all over his butt along with stains. He has likely had a busy several weeks.

Also, I did a hasty score on him tonight. Gross 136" with the drop and net 123". Just doesn't look like he put a ton on the last couple years. He may well be a buck that was never going to see 150-160". Guess we will never know now and I'm okay with that.:smiley_bril:
